The Senior Manager, Materials Management is responsible for leading GMP materials operations at Abzena to support process development, clinical, and commercial manufacturing activities. This role oversees inventory control, warehousing, shipping and receiving, material planning, logistics, and distribution activities to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing execution in a compliant, efficient, and scalable manner.

This individual will partner cross-functionally with Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality, Program Management, Procurement, Facilities, and external suppliers and logistics providers to ensure material readiness, inventory accuracy, production support, and operational excellence across the Abzena Bristol site.

The Senior Manager will play a key role in strengthening materials management systems, driving KPI-based performance management, supporting site scalability, and developing a high-performing team capable of supporting a growing biopharmaceutical manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GMP warehouse, inventory control, shipping and receiving, material planning, and logistics operations for the Abzena Bristol site.
  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of GMP raw materials, consumables, and components to support manufacturing and process development schedules.
  • Oversee inventory accuracy through cycle count programs, reconciliation practices, ERP governance, and material traceability controls.
  • Develop and maintain compliant GMP material storage areas, including cold-chain and hazardous material management practices.
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing, MSAT, QC, QA, Program Management, and Supply Chain teams to ensure material readiness and alignment to production schedules and client timelines.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, systems, and controls to ensure compliant handling, storage, issuance, and disposition of GMP materials in accordance with Abzena quality standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Drive KPI development and reporting related to inventory accuracy, schedule adherence, OTIF delivery, material availability, backlog reduction, and operational efficiency.
  • Support investigations, deviations, CAPAs, change controls, and audit readiness activities related to materials management operations.
  • Participate in internal, client, and regulatory audits and ensure inspection readiness within the department.
  • Lead communications with internal stakeholders and external suppliers regarding supply, demand, scheduling, and material risk management.
  • Support technology transfers, scale-up activities, validation campaigns, capital projects, and commercialization efforts across Abzena programs.
  • Manage external logistics providers, subcontractors, and third-party warehouse relationships to ensure compliant and efficient material movement and storage.
  • Partner with Supply Chain leadership to support ERP/MRP optimization, planning alignment, and process standardization initiatives
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on material flow, warehouse optimization, operational efficiency, and reduction of supply chain risk.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, headcount planning, and operating expenses in alignment with business objectives.
  • Build and develop a high-performing team through coaching, mentoring, accountability, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with peers across Abzena sites to ensure harmonized processes, operational consistency, and seamless cross-site execution.
  • Remain current on industry trends, GMP regulations, supply chain best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to biopharmaceutical operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, Life Sciences, or related field required
  • Minimum of 5 years of GMP supply chain, materials management, or warehouse operations experience within the biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry
  • Minimum of 3years of leadership experience managing GMP materials management or warehouse operations teams
  • Strong understanding of GMP requirements, inventory control practices, material traceability, cold-chain logistics, and pharmaceutical manufacturing support operations
  • Experience supporting clinical and commercial biopharmaceutical manufacturing operations preferred
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems required. Experience with IFS, SAP, or equivalent systems preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skilla
  • Experience supporting deviations, CAPAs, change controls, and audit activities in regulated environments
  • APICS, CPIM, or related supply chain certification preferred
  • IATA certification for shipping dangerous goods preferred
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced manufacturing environments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a dynamic, growth-oriented organization.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for 1-2 hours at a time, sit for 2 to 3 hours at a time.
  • Frequently lift and or move objects at least 15 pounds; occasionally lifting more
  • Use arms, hands, and fingers to handle, feel or reach.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Visual abilities including near and far sight, color, peripheral vision, depth and ability to focus.
