Job Description

Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is a leading anti-poverty organization serving neighbors in need across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester. Through 70+ programs, we support over 35,000 adults and children each year, including individuals experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of foster care, veterans, seniors, and children with developmental delays.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Position: Manager, Strategic Initiatives (Hybrid)

The Manager of Strategic Initiatives provides exceptional project management support to the Chief of Staff/EVP as well as the President and CEO to ensure that critical initiatives and tasks are moved from conceptualization to completion. The person will often coordinate all phases of project management including planning, executing, monitoring and closing. The Manager will serve as a liaison with strategic partners within and outside of the organization.

Location: New York, NY 10020

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of experience as a member of an executive office, human services, or project management team, or satisfactory combination of education and experience.
• Comfort working with senior executives, as well as strong initiative, discretion, and judgement.
• Superior communication, writing, and proofreading skills. Ability to synthesize content from various sources into a singular voice that reflects the organization’s perspective.
• Ability to work effectively independently, while successfully managing multiple projects and work effectively in a team environment.

Manager, Strategic Initiatives Principal Responsibilities:
1. Lead cross-functional initiatives that require central leadership and support initiatives that are proximate to the Executive Office, especially pertaining to strategy, public policy, communications, and fundraising.
2. Support the Executive Team by providing structure, accountability, and drive around the organization’s strategic planning process and implementation.
3. Support the Office of the CEO with governance processes and communications, including board newsletters, board activity reports, and opportunities for board presence at programs.
4. Support the Chief of Staff through joint maintenance of a meaningful and robust calendar of Leadership Team Meeting agendas throughout the year.
5. Attend conferences relevant to VOA-GNY’s work, report back on industry trends and best practices, and forge relationships with prospective partners.
6. Supervise the Executive Leadership Fellow, who will support the Manager in their responsibilities and have their own defined portfolio of goals that further organizational strategy.
7. All other related tasks are completed on time and accurately.
