Job Description

As the Manager, Special Assets & Recovery, you'll lead a team dedicated to helping members navigate financial challenges while protecting the credit union's financial strength. You'll oversee recovery and loss mitigation programs, drive strategies that improve portfolio performance, and partner closely with teams across the organization to deliver meaningful solutions for members. What your day may include:

  • Leading WSECU's Special Assets & Recovery function, including recovery operations, collections, repossessions, bankruptcy servicing, probate administration, collateral liquidation, and post-default account management.
  • Developing and executing recovery strategies that optimize portfolio performance, mitigate losses, and achieve organizational objectives.
  • Providing leadership, coaching, and oversight to department leaders and staff while fostering a high-performing and collaborative team culture.
  • Directing operational risk management, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, internal controls, and policy governance within the Special Assets & Recovery function.
  • Managing department performance, budgeting, workforce planning, and vendor partnerships to support strategic and operational goals.
  • Partnering with Credit Risk Management and executive leadership on recovery forecasting, performance analysis, and portfolio strategy.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for organizational initiatives, process improvement efforts, audits, and cross-functional projects.
  • Leading resolution of complex member matters, regulatory complaints, litigation, bankruptcies, and other escalated recovery-related issues.
  • Collaborating with business partners and stakeholders across the organization to improve processes, resolve operational challenges, and enhance member outcomes.
  • Leveraging data, reporting, analytics, and technology solutions to drive decision-making, improve recovery performance, and identify operational efficiencies.

What you bring to the team:

  • Five (5) or more years of Collections Experience
  • Five (5) or more years Financial Institution experience
  • Five (5) or more years of supervisory experience

Bonus points if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with Consumer Lending, Data Analytics, Financial Coaching, Project Management, Technology / Systems Management

Competitive pay: $97,805.94 - $146,708.92 annually, dependent on relevant qualifications, plus an annual discretionary incentive plan and benefits package

  • The target starting pay for this position is $97,805.94 - $122,257.43 annually, typically within the first half of the range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant’s pay history into account.
  • The range above allows our employees room for growth through annual merit and other pay increases during their tenure in the position.

Where we’re located: 330 Union Ave, Olympia WA. Employee must reside and perform all work in the state of Washington. This is a hybrid position that blends working in-office and from home. Works onsite in Olympia Headquarters at least two (2) occasions per week, Wednesdays and one other day per week, with flexibility to report onsite more often for business needs.

Working from home/hybrid requirements:

  • Reliable, high-speed home internet connection
  • Private, confidential workspace, away from distractions and other people
  • Suitable desk/surface and desk chair

When you’d work: Monday – Friday, 8:00am - 6:00pm, minimum 40 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility required to meet the service needs for this full time exempt position.
