MasterCard is recruiting a Software Engineering Manager to lead software engineering teams under Mastercard Franchise and Legal Solutions (FLS) program. The Mastercard Franchise and Legal Solutions (FLS) program is a suite of services which maintains and enhances the foundation of the franchise by understanding evolving business needs. It provides customer focus lifecycle management, and the discipline for scaled growth for partners, while ensuring ease of business with Mastercard and business optimization through world-class training, analytics, and risk management. The program resolves customer disputes and security related events, through data driven insights and investigative intelligence, promoting balance, integrity and security across Mastercard’s multi rail ecosystem.
We are seeking a Hands-on Engineering Manager to lead and grow high-performing engineering teams building scalable, data-intensive, and intelligent platforms. This role requires a strong balance of people leadership, technical depth, and execution excellence. At MasterCard software engineering teams leverage Agile development principles, advanced development and design practices, and are obsessed over security, reliability, and performance to deliver solutions that delight our customers. You will remain close to the code and architecture while mentoring engineers, driving delivery, and partnering with Product, Program, and Architecture teams. Experience with Big Data ecosystems (Spark, Hadoop, Cloudera) is highly valuedand is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Technical Leadership:
Act as a hands-on technical leader, actively involved in system design, architecture reviews, code reviews, and complex problem-solving.
Lead the design and development of large-scale, distributed, and data-intensive systems with high availability, performance, and reliability.
Drive best practices in data engineering, including batch and streaming pipelines, data quality, governance, and observability.
Ensure that team is adhering to the industry best practices & company standards in terms of coding practices, process, tools & technologies.
Ensure strong engineering discipline across coding standards, testing, CI/CD, security, and operational excellence.
Provide technical guidance on Big Data platforms (Spark, Hadoop, Cloudera) and modern cloud-native data architectures.
Monitor the program metrics & work with the team to maintain and strive to exceed them.
Team & People Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop one or more engineering teams; foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Support engineers’ career growth through coaching, feedback, performance management, and goal setting.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, and building diverse, inclusive, and high-performing teams.
Create an environment of psychological safety, collaboration, and technical excellence.
Mentor and motivate all around growth, manage team member’s professional aspirations.
Conduct Performance assessment, participate and/or lead recruitment to ramp up a new or existing team, actively participate organization’s process & initiatives (especially people management)
Delivery & Execution:
Partner closely with Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, and Architects to plan and execute roadmaps.
Assist Technical Program Managers in Project Planning, schedule, dependency management, risk identification and mitigation
Drive Agile practices effectively (Scrum/Kanban), ensuring predictable delivery without compromising quality.
Identify technical risks early and proactively manage dependencies and mitigation strategies.
Monitor and improve engineering metrics related to quality, velocity, reliability, and customer impact.
Ensure that team is delivering high quality work as per the customer needs by actively participating as necessary in scrum ceremonies (like Refining, planning, product demo, retrospective), pair programming & code review.
Work with Product Manager-Technical to ensure that the team have enough backlog.
Experiences:
Strong experience of leading, people managing at least 2-3 scrum teams.
Good Knowledge and experience of SDLC processes (Waterfall, Scrum, Agile framework, principles).
Strong experience of managing a software product development involving highly scalable, highly available enterprise grade application. Preferably in Payments domain.
Good Knowledge and experience of using Project Management tools like MS Project, JIRA, Rally.
Experience of developing application in Java, Java EE/Spring, RESTful API, React Js, Oracle/Postgres.
Desirable to have hands on experience of designing & developing microservice application & deploying them on any one of the public clouds like Google, AWS, Azure.
Primary knowledge of Design Patterns & Security concepts (E.g. authentication, authorization, confidentiality etc.) and protocols their usage in enterprise application.
Strong and effective Written & Verbal communication
Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
Experience in Big Data technologies, including, Apache Spark, Hadoop ecosystem, Cloudera or similar data platforms
Experience in Scala, Python, or similar backend languages.
Understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, batch and streaming processing.
Knowledge of security, privacy, and compliance in data platforms.
Experience working in highly regulated or large-scale enterprise environments.
