What you will be doing:

Virgin Australia’s Safety Systems Division is seeking an experienced Manager, Safety Investigations to lead our safety investigation function and a team of skilled Investigators.

This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who can look beyond what happened to understand why it happened, what it tells us about our systems, and how we can prevent it happening again.

Reporting directly to the Head of Assurance, you will:

  • Lead timely, rigorous investigations into safety occurrences, events and emerging concerns
  • Guide investigators in identifying casual factors, human factors, systemic contributors and prevention opportunities using approved methodologies
  • Oversee occurrence triage, assessment, risk classification and regulatory reporting
  • Ensure investigation findings are clearly communicated and translated into practical safety improvements and organisational learning
  • Track recommendations and corrective /preventative actions through to completion
  • Analyse investigation data to identify recurring themes, emerging hazards and systemic safety trends
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Safety Investigations team
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting on significant investigations, themes, systemic issues and overdue actions

You'll be great in this role if you have:

  • Significant experience in aviation safety investigations, occurrence analysis or related safety functions, including leadership in a safety critical environment
  • Strong knowledge of safety management systems, investigation methodologies, aviation regulations, human factors and organisational risk
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to translate investigation findings into practical safety improvements
  • Excellent communication, interviewing, report writing, presentation and stakeholder influencing skills
  • Relevant aviation investigation, safety or human factors qualifications/training
  • ATPL, Lead Auditor qualification, auditing experience, investigator training/coaching experience, and knowledge of HFACS and Intelex is highly regarded but not essential
