Job Description

Position Summary

This position will direct and manage the shop and/or field functions of the relative location. This includes but not limited to coordinating and managing workflow of shop and/ or field; maintain communications between all parties, ensure shop is appropriately staffed, ensure the shop is in compliance with all safety regulations and guidelines, and other leadership duties.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the day-to-day service operations of a shop and/or field location, which includes monitoring all work and overseeing all work order functions
  • Meet all safety goals of the department and promote a safe work environment through good housekeeping, elimination of safety hazards, responsiveness to employee suggestions etc.

Safety

  • Obey all safety rules and policies
  • Keep shop and equipment staging area clean and free of clutter
  • Maintain all hazardous material law II series procedures
  • Ensure that overhead cranes, floor jacks, compressors, welding carts, fire extinguishers, etc. are inspected and documented
  • Enforce all personal protective equipment rules and regulations
  • Ensure all safety rules and policies are enforced
  • Have a weekly tool box safety meeting and document it with a copy given to manager every Friday
  • Ensure that all ANSI and DOT inspections are completed with 0 days late
  • Service operations leader with accountability of all results (profitability, customer perspective, rework, quality, turnover, employee attitudes, etc.) within span of control
  • Maintain a customer driven work area focused on price, quality, and turnaround
  • Schedule work and coordinate daily shop functions emphasizing what the expected time and cost goal is to complete the job. Measurement and evaluation of jobs completed on time and at a profit.
  • Communicate with customers, management, suppliers and technicians to ensure smooth operation of the shop.
  • Direct lead and technicians in their function and make plans for their future training and development, with strong emphasis on coaching.
  • Assist in trouble shooting and repair of equipment as needed to promote and support timely repair of equipment and the coaching of technician.
  • Assure strong relationships with customers by timely follow-up with quotes, phone calls, questions etc.
  • Control shop expenses in relationship to the volume of work and understand the inter-relationship of rework, variance, safety, tool expense etc. to the overall profit.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with established corporate standards. Oversees day to day operations of the unit. Reviews and evaluates the work and performance of reporting employees. Has significant input regarding hiring and disciplining employees

Position Requirements

Required:

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through a high school education or the equivalent with additional training preferred through a vocational school with studies in diesel technology.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a Lead or Supervisory role

Preferred:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in diesel technology, preferably with Caterpillar.

  • Excellent data base computer skills with a strong ability to operate industry specific PC and main frame programs with a basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to operate a computer and necessary programs such as Microsoft Office products and database systems

  • Works under limited supervision. Independently determines the approach to take and the methods to use. Interprets policy in terms of objectives. Informs manager of unusual situations with far reaching implications.
  • Major responsibilities typically require a modest amount of creativity and latitude. Employee typically operates under general instructions with some established procedures and policies
  • If an error is made while in this position, it will require moderate effort to identify the error and can create a moderate impact on the company financially
