
Job Purpose/Objective
Ensure smooth conduct of all Regulatory and Legal matters related to the Free Trade Warehousing Zones and the Business Unit of DP World..
Key responsibilities
Regulatory
• Liaising with SEZ Authorities, Customs, SEZ Online, Planning Authority and other state/central authorities etc. for all FTWZ related issues ensuring smooth operations.
• Handling official communication with SEZ & other related bodies. Managing administrative requirements of SEZ officials.
• Attending various audits of SEZ, Customs, DRI, SIIB, ISO & other related bodies. Handling confiscations, seizures, disposal / E-auction of long-standing export and import cargo.
• Handling cases of short shipments, excess cargo, back to town, high sea sales, Bonding, debonding, warehousing (EXIM & domestic), etc.
•Attending meetings/investigations with SEZ/Customs/DRI/CBI /CSTAT and other law enforcement bodies.
• Managing and guiding other departments to follow various rules and practices laid down by the relevant regulatory bodies.
• Single point contact for Customers / CHAs for any issues in completion of Customs related activities.
EXIM –
• Coordination with Shipping Lines, important importers/exporters and acting as Key Account Manager for prominent customers and resolving their clearance related issues to ensure timely handover.
• Arranging timely completion of activities and documentation of EXIM transactions as per rules and regulations of Customs and trade practices.
• Helping maintaining of process flow and documentation for EXIM activities in the online system.
Operations –
• Coordination with various departments for completion of activities like weighment, shifting, grounding, repairing, etc.
• Coordination with third party vendors, surveyors etc., for timely completion of activities including handover of urgent, timebound and reefer cargo.
LEGAL –
• Liaison with and manage external legal advisors/ counsel in relation to the legal issues - court litigations and dispute resolutions, opinions, regulatory issues and brief counsel on legal matters, ensuring that the organization is effectively represented in any legal action taken by or against it.
• Be actively involved in preparing of documents to be filed with courts, arbitral tribunal & working towards resolving legal disputes/claims and initiating/defending legal proceedings and regulatory matters as necessary.
• Key Member of the team which evaluates and identify the best options for obtaining permissions from Regulatory Authorities and to participate in the preparing and obtaining of the permissions.
• Preparing and making applications and obtaining permissions from Regulatory Authorities.
• Work very closely with heads of BU’s and of cross functional teams like Finance, Operations, Commercial and Human Capital teams on day to day legal issues as necessary
• Responding to legal notices, finalizing notices to be sent on behalf of company in conjunction with the company’s solicitors.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
Skills and Competencies
•10-15 years relevant experience in relation to Special Economic Zones Act and Rules.
•Hands on knowledge of prevailing SEZ guidelines
•Ability to understand customers business, applicable regulations and the relevance of FTWZ laws.
•Basic understanding of corporate & business law.
•Demonstrate problem solving and analytical skills
•Excellent communication skills, drafting and negotiation skills
•Ability to interpret legal requirements and apply to relevant business operations.
•Ability to understand commercial and financial drivers.
• Ability to prioritizing parallel projects and meet demanding deadlines.

Educational Qualification (min)
Bachelor’s / Masters Degree

Range/ Min no of years - of overall Experience required
-10–15 years of compliance or regulatory experience, preferably in SEZs, free trade zones, logistics, or large corporate
Min no of years of Industry specific experience required, if any & the industry type
-Minimum 5–7 years should be in a senior or managerial capacity, handling regulatory compliance frameworks, audits, and external stakeholder management.
