The company is seeking a driven and experienced communicator to help elevate our great science and support key milestones across our early and late-stage research portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate and R&D Communications and Patient Advocacy, within Corporate Affairs, the Manager will support the development and execution of external communications strategies, plans and tactics to help raise the profile of Alkermes’ neuroscience expertise. The position requires an individual who can work productively and can prioritize assignments based on business need. Critical success factors for the role include excellent written communications skills and the ability to effectively partner with cross-functional leaders throughout the company (e.g., R&D, medical, legal, regulatory, clinical).
Primary Responsibilities:
Support development and implementation of R&D PR plans and initiatives aligned with corporate goals to strengthen awareness of Alkermes’ neuroscience expertise among key stakeholders
Track media trends related to neuroscience and identify opportunities to generate coverage of Alkermes’ R&D story in the absence of milestone events
Partner with cross-functional colleagues in Research and Clinical to develop key messages for early-stage pipeline candidates, including in new indications of interest
Work closely with members of Medical Affairs to develop strategic communications that support the company’s scientific communications efforts (posters, manuscripts, etc.)
Assess patient advocacy landscape for new therapeutic areas and establish relationships
Partner with the broader Corporate Affairs team to align and maximize opportunities for R&D initiatives and communication activities
Proactively research trends, new developments and insights in priority business areas and relevant disease states
Develop and maintain a current understanding of the competitive landscape to better characterize the differentiating features of our development candidates
Compile media and social listening coverage reports
Qualifications:
5 - 7 years of experience in a public relations or communications-related role; PR agency, biotech or pharma experience is highly desirable
Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear and concise communications in a manner appropriate to audience, whether verbal or written
Experience in writing, editing, social media management, media relations and working with vendors
Strong attention-to-detail and project management skills
Thorough knowledge of proper grammar usage; excellent proofreading skills
Can effectively prioritize complex workload demands and deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships
Curious; eager to learn
Strong verbal skills
Self-directed team player with a positive attitude
Travel as required (~10%)
Bachelor’s degree (communications, marketing/public relations, journalism, English or related discipline a plus)
Alkermes has adopted a hybrid working environment to support and meet the needs of employees and this role will operate in a flexible environment with 60% of time in the office and 40% from home. This position is eligible for the hybrid workplace model, requiring work to be completed onsite at our Waltham, MA office at least 3 days per week. This role is not eligible for fully remote work.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $115,000 - $130,000. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual performance pay bonus.
