Technical Project Manager – Data Centre Projects

Location: Milan, Italy (EMEA Region)

Reports To: Data Centre Delivery Director

Employment Type: Full-Time / Fixed Term Contract 6 Months

Job Purpose

To project manage the technical delivery of telecoms and security infrastructure within new data centre environments. This includes structured cabling (fibre and copper), access control, CCTV, and other security systems. The Project Manager ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently, timely, within budget and in compliance with industry standards, coordinating multiple teams and stakeholders across complex builds.

The Technical Project Manager must hold a relevant technical degree (e.g., Architect, Engineer, Surveyor or similar qualification), and/or, formally certified in one of these areas. He/She must possess at least five years of demonstrable similar experience. This experience must be supported by documents that show the candidate has served as technically responsible for works, preferably in the same domain as the projects to be undertaken.

Key Responsibilities Telecoms Focus (Min 2 years experience)

  • Manage the full lifecycle of structured cabling projects including fibre and copper installations.
  • Oversee installation, termination, and testing of telecoms infrastructure in accordance with TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, and BICSI standards.
  • Coordinate telecoms teams, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery.
  • Review and approve installation documentation, test results, and site reports.
  • Ensure telecoms work aligns with design drawings and project specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to maintain quality and safety compliance.

Security Systems Focus (Min 2 years experience)

  • Lead the deployment of electronic security systems including CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection.
  • Manage integration of security systems with telecoms infrastructure.
  • Liaise with vendors and subcontractors for system commissioning and handover.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international security standards and regulations.
  • Support testing, documentation, and client training for security systems.
  • Resolve escalated technical issues and ensure minimal disruption to project timelines.

General Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and risk registers.
  • Facilitate client meetings, technical reviews, and change control processes.
  • Monitor team performance, productivity, and KPIs.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance across all workstreams.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned across projects.
  • Ensure that the project delivery costs are within budgets
  • Manage partners and vendors, ensuring continuity of the services
  • Escalation management

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering telecoms and/or security infrastructure projects in data centre or critical environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of structured cabling, fibre optics, copper systems, and electronic security systems.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and installation standards.
  • Fluent in English and Italian.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and CDM requirements.

Desirable Certifications

  • PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification
  • BICSI RCDD or Technician
  • Security system certifications (e.g., AMAG, Genetec, Lenel, Axis)
  • Health and Safety / OSHA / NEBOSH Certification

Working Conditions

  • Based on-site at data centre construction projects across the EMEA region.
  • May require travel, extended hours, or weekend work to meet project milestones.
  • PPE and strict adherence to safety protocols are mandatory.
