The purpose of the Manager of Process Automation role is to lead and oversee all activities and operations associated with the related systems. It includes Process Control System (PCS), Clean Utilities Automation (CUA) and Package Units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management and staffing of the technical team: Process Automation Engineers (PCS/CUA/PU) internals and contingent workers
  • Partnering with suppliers and vendors
  • Setting direction for the applications
  • Planning and resource management to support key business projects
  • Manage PCS/CUA/PU internal staff and external contractors in the design, development, integration, installation, verification and qualification, and long-term operation of automated processes, equipment, and systems following the guidelines and instructions defined by ISA-88 and ISA-95
  • Provide technical leadership in complex problem-solving and decision-making, collaborates and influences business stakeholders with a focus on driving and implementing innovative recipe driven, process automation solutions.
  • Provide day-to-day support for the Process Automation systems (DEV, VAL, PROD) and develops a sustainable support model that provides the appropriate service level to manufacturing and other stakeholders to minimize manufacturing interruptions
  • Ensure adherence to Thermo Fisher Scientific procedures and practices that governs Change Control and Validation
  • Enforce automation harmonization and standardization
  • System owner of Process Automation systems & CUA/PU System
  • Provide engineering expertise and direction to employees and contractors to meet project and support schedules and financial goals while ensuring technical success
  • Perform regular project reviews, provide technical and test expertise for Process Automation systems

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems & Control, Automation Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in automation engineering, with at least 5 years within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated experience in leading or supervising a team of engineers.
  • Proven track record of ensuring automation infrastructure availability and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Strong understanding of process automation and technical process operations
  • Extensive knowledge and professional experience with automation systems, particularly Siemens PCS 7 (knowledge of other Siemens systems, such as WinCC and TIA, is also required) or DeltaV
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • GMP experience is a must
