The Pharmacy Operations Manager will assist the Pharmacy Director with the overall day-to-day management of the Pharmacy operations and staff (Technicians and Pharmacists). Assumes leadership accountability and responsibility for clinical operations and supervision of drug distribution. Supports the Pharmacy staff to enable effective processes for pharmaceutical ordering, dispensing and clinical interventions. Responsible for leadership and direction in accordance with the organizational and departmental philosophy and goals to achieve expectations for clinical/operational performance and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality patient care, resource management, program development, customer service, and facilities management.
  • Manages the operations of pharmacy in a cost-effective manner, including planning for new services. Develops ways to reduce and control pharmacy and hospital expenses.
  • Assists the Director in developing and implementing an operational budget and strategic goals.
  • Directs day-to-day operations (24/7), delegating responsibility and authority for providing services to ensure adequate resources are available. Integrates services with other professional services within and outside the center to ensure continuity of care.
  • Recruits, hires, develops, schedules, and supervises assigned staff. Develops performance standards and conducts performance appraisals. Maintains staff competence.
  • Stays abreast of applicable federal and state laws as professional standards of practice. Monitors and ensures pharmacy operation meets all regulatory, legal, accreditation, and certification requirements.
  • Prepares and revises policies and procedures in area of responsibility and implements approved changes. Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures for Pharmacy personnel and ensures compliance.
  • Directs, coordinates, and participates in orientation, training, and continuing education programs for pharmacists and technicians. Assists the Pharmacy Director with the medication safety program of the organization.
  • Represents the department in hospital and/or medical staff committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S. in Pharmacy, M.S. in Hospital Pharmacy, or a Pharm.D. degree required.
  • Licensure as a Pharmacist required.
  • 1 to 2 years in a supervisory/management capacity required.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency preferred with a minimum of three years of experience in an acute care hospital system preferred.

Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, and sitting; occasional (0-33% of workday) bending, stooping, and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination.

Mental Requirements: Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team. Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Compensation Pay Range:

$78.08 - $117.12
