Job Description

Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) provides specialized mental health services for older adults in Ontario who are living with or at risk of responsive behaviours related to dementia, complex mental illness, substance use, or other neurological conditions. The BSO mobile team offers in-depth assessment, consultation, and person-centred care planning. Services focus on non-pharmacological interventions and are delivered in collaboration with Behaviour Support Champions and clinical staff within long-term care homes.

Key Responsibilities

The Manager, Patient Care Services & Regional BSO Lead provides leadership and operational oversight for designated programs at The Royal.

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure timely, effective, and coordinated service delivery
  • Manages the resolution of sensitive or escalated issues by coordinating corrective actions
  • Support integration of clinical services across disciplines
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and support to ensure team goals are achieved,
  • Manage day-to-day human resources activities for the team and provide leadership and support for staff development
  • Participate in disciplinary actions up to termination and attendance management
  • Ensure staff compliance with mandatory training and awareness on new policies, legislation, and departmental/ unit procedures
  • Implement new systems, workflows, or technology within the department
  • Work closely with peers, physicians, scientists, leadership team, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment of departmental goals with broader hospital strategies

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Allied Health or acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in mental health, including 3 years progressive leadership in clinical services and administration.
  • Current registration and member in good standing with applicable regulatory college.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health clinical service delivery models.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, PHIPA, SDA):
    Ensures compliance with healthcare laws and patient privacy.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop multidisciplinary teams
  • Skilled at addressing staff conflicts, managing union relations, and negotiating solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage staff, patients, families, and stakeholders
  • Familiarity with healthcare IT systems and electronic health records (EHR):Facilitates accurate patient data management and clinical workflow.
  • Ability to interpret workforce and patient care data to inform decisions and improve service delivery.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel), email, and internet.
  • Experience in unionized settings and collective agreements.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through organizational change

Language Requirements

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
