Manager, Pathways Advising-26001Y5

The Advising Manager provides leadership and supervision to the Pathways Advising Department. Uses data to assess performance of pathway advisors as they assist students through the educational journey from entry to completion and transfer. Provides training and guidance for pathway advisors to ensure an acceptable level of competence in advising theory and practice.Assists Pathway Advisors and students with the interpretation of policies and procedures to meet educational and career goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead the Department in establishing and achieving annual goals and objectives. Responsible for working collaboratively with District Advising to develop, review, modify, implement, and assess Advising Department’s procedures and guidelines.

Complete Advisor Certification Program and provide support and guidance to Pathway Advisors pursuing certification.

Responsible for supervising and training Pathway Advising staff to include performance evaluations.

Responsible for the implementation of the Customer Service Model of Excellence.

Provide department leadership and consistent services by implementation of Institutional procedures, forms, and reports.

Review progress of Advisor caseloads to include persistence, retention, and success metrics to ensure advising team is on track to meet targeted outcomes.

Manage departmental budget and serves as the signature authority. Provide oversight and approval of purchase of office supplies and advising materials.

Work collaboratively with District Advising to deploy advising certification model and monitor recertification of Pathway Advisors.

Provide training opportunities and keeps department abreast of new developments and innovation within the Advising profession.

Represent the Advising Department at Pathway Advising Council, cross functional task force and work teams for continuous improvement efforts with processes and procedures.

Provide career advisement such as requirements for certain career fields, occupational opportunities with certain majors/workforce programs, etc.

Provide information regarding student life opportunities to include student activities and recreational sports. Informs students of the benefits to Pathway Advising Team and encourage collaboration with student engagement opportunities (i.e. leadership skills, team building, and, civic engagement).

Assist faculty with the promotion of special programs and opportunities such as learning communities, bridge courses, honors programs, service learning, etc.

Provide transfer planning to universities to include joint admissions programs, articulation agreements, common course numbering system, and transfer plans.

Establish and maintain interdepartmental relationships with all Student Services and instructional programs.

Maintain appropriate records and create program reports as necessary.

Plan, organize, and coordinate department-wide strategic programs, projects, and activities which support enrollment and retention.

Coordinate and provide opportunities for continuous improvement and professional development for Pathway Advisors.

Provide leadership and support to advising initiatives aligned with HCC’s persistence and graduation initiatives.

May work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Master’s degree required

Master’s degree in Counseling, Guidance, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services preferred

3 years work experience in an institution of higher education advising setting required, including 2 years supervisory experience preferably in an institution of higher education

HCC College Leadership Program preferred
