The Manager on Duty (MOD) is a leadership position responsible for overseeing evening and weekend operations at a YMCA facility. This role ensures the smooth functioning of the facility, supports staff, and upholds the Y’s commitment to exceptional member service and safety. The MOD acts as the senior point of contact during assigned shifts, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:
40 hours per week. Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Operational Oversight:
◦ Supervise evening and weekend operations to ensure the facility runs efficiently and safely.
◦ Monitor and address any operational issues, including facility maintenance and cleanliness.
◦ Enforce YMCA policies and procedures consistently and fairly.
◦ Actively ensure the safety and well-being of all children by adhering to YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s Youth Protection Policies. Recognize, respond to, and immediately report any suspected abuse, policy violations, or safety concerns.
Family Programming Coordination: Plan, organize, and execute engaging and inclusive monthly family programs that align with the Y’s mission, fostering community connection and meaningful experiences for families.

Birthday Party Management: Oversee all aspects of birthday party rentals, including maintaining an organized schedule, monitoring inventory and supplies, and ensuring timely communication of needs to the supervisor for seamless event execution.

Staff Supervision and Support:
◦ Provide guidance and support to evening and weekend staff, ensuring high performance and member satisfaction.
◦ Conduct regular check-ins with staff to address questions or concerns.
◦ Assist with scheduling adjustments and staff coverage as needed.

Member and Guest Engagement:
◦ Serve as the primary point of contact for member and guest inquiries, concerns, and feedback during shifts.
◦ Address conflicts or complaints promptly and professionally, escalating issues to senior management when needed.
◦ Promote a positive member experience by maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Emergency and Safety Management:
◦ Act as the lead staff member during emergencies, ensuring proper response and communication protocols are followed.
◦ Conduct routine safety checks and address hazards promptly.
◦ Document incidents accurately and report them to appropriate personnel.

Administrative Duties:
◦ Complete shift reports and update the branch management on operational issues or successes.
◦ Assist with administrative tasks, such as monitoring attendance and preparing end-of-shift summaries.
◦ Support program delivery and event execution as needed.

Training & Meetings: Attends training sessions and staff meetings to ensure professional development.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a customer service, recreation, or nonprofit environment.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with YMCA programs and operations is a plus.
