JOB SUMMARY

Daily oversight of all JKV beauty salons, including three multi-stylist shops, one VCC single-stylist shop, one shop in assisted living with two stations and three individual memory care salons with one station each. Responsible for supervision of staff, salon product selection and purchasing, customer satisfaction, salon appearance and salon promotion. Works with Director to develop marketing plan that drives revenue and enhances customer service. Support the other Life Enrichment activity initiatives through serving as a member of the team to ensure event success. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises salon staff. Trains, orients, schedules, prepares payroll, and coaches stylists to increase productivity through setting regular sales goals. Shares Village goals, mission, and ongoing Village happenings.
  • Stays current on salon trends and evaluates for JKV based on customer desire and revenue production.
  • Ensures ongoing training to keep stylists abreast of current techniques and trends.
  • Serves as liaison between customers and stylists. Ensures that all customer service issues are resolved.
  • Fills in as needed for stylists who need time off for various reasons to accommodate residents who are unable to come at a different time. No commission will be paid since this is a leadership function of customer satisfaction and keeping the salons running smoothly.
  • Promotes and markets salons through promotions as well as continuously monitors and analyzes sales reports.
  • Maintains inventory of all salon products, ensuring all supplies are kept stocked and orders are timely and cost effective.
  • Ensures systems are in place to maintain a clean, attractive salon.
  • Maintains all regulatory requirements (state licensing) and assures safety procedures are in place and followed.
  • Ensures equipment is in good and safe working order, schedules maintenance as necessary.
  • Responsible for annual budgeting and regular oversight of financials.
  • Completes annual price comparisons to market.
  • Works with concierge team and IT to ensure scheduling software is performing accurately.
  • Support all Life Enrichment initiatives and contribute to the overall leadership of the Resident Life department.
  • Implements and ensures regular, frequent resident and associate satisfaction surveys are completed.
  • Ensures salons are opened and closed appropriately.
  • Order beverage supplies as necessary.
  • Provides own scissors, rollers, clips and salon tools.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements. Performs mock inspections and meets with all state inspectors as necessary.
  • Works in associates who need services as appropriate.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school education or general education degree (GED) required.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Cosmetologist license is required.

Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):

  • Minimum of 3 years of salon supervision experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of stylist experience.
  • Intermediate level keyboarding skills required.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office pc applications, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of computerized billing software (such as Infogenesis) preferred.
  • Previous experience working with elderly and doing sets on hair preferred.
  • Basic experience using a cash register (computerized) and cash handling knowledge (i.e., balancing, closing)
  • Advanced level skill in using hair care equipment and chemicals.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in indoor settings.
  • Expected to work on Saturdays.
  • All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

  • May need to stoop/bend, kneel, crawl, and reach. Standing for long periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Must be able to speak and hear.
  • The associate is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
