Our SALT Consulting tax department provides support to our clients with diagnosis of exposure, remedy and structural changes, and ongoing compliance and controversy support.  Primarily, we work with U.S. sales and use tax taxes in multiple state jurisdictions. The Manager of Sales & Use Tax Consulting & Technology is involved in most aspects of this practice other than regular tax compliance/return filing.  For this particular position, we are looking for a candidate to balance high-level multi-state tax consulting (nexus, risk analysis) with hands-on sales tax system configurations, custom taxability matrices, and exemption certificate management implementations.  The successful candidate would be involved in sales tax software implementation projects, tax technology process improvements, and general sales and use tax consulting projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist with nationwide nexus studies for both sales tax, income tax, and other tax types 
• Assist with nationwide risk assessments quantifying exposure for sales tax, income tax, and other tax types 
• Assist clients with indirect tax engine evaluation and selection.
• Overseeing complex sales tax system implementations for clients with diverse ERP/Ecommerce platforms.
• Assist with voluntary disclosure projects 
• Prepare memoranda on state and local tax issues/taxability of products or services 
• Maintain active communication with clients – direct client interaction within your first week 

Requirements

• B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited university preferred 
• 4-5 years’ experience in state and local experience consulting, specifically sales and use tax.
• Meeting education requirements for CPA certification or CMI in sales tax (or in line with CMI expectations.  
• Avalara CIP certification.
• Avalara, Vertex, implementation experience
• Exemption Certificate Management Experience
• Ecommerce and ERP experience (NetSuite, Microsoft Business Central, QBO, Shopify, Woo Commerce, Big Commerce)
• Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, project management, communication skills and solid Microsoft Suite skills required 
• Experience integrating AI and emerging technologies into SALT consulting workflows to improve project execution, analyze complex tax issues, generate insights, and enhance client service delivery.
• Solid research skills for taxability determination and product mapping services.
• Ability to provide exceptional client service, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning, display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment and exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and the timely completion of duties 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel 
• Ability to work effectively on a team 
• Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment
