The Compute AI Infrastructure Bare Metal Provisioning team in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a team responsible for critical infrastructure that powers OCI Compute and GPU platforms.

The Bare Metal Provisioning team owns the infrastructure responsible for automating the full server lifecycle—from new platform shape creation and hardware bring-up through customer-ready instance provisioning and firmware management. Our services operate at the intersection of bare metal hardware and large-scale distributed systems, supporting a diverse and rapidly growing fleet of AMD, Intel, Arm, and NVIDIA platforms. The team works directly with BMCs, NICs, SmartNICs, ILOMs, GPUs, and firmware stacks to provision, configure, secure, and validate server platforms across OCI’s global infrastructure.

This role will contribute to the strategic vision for Bare Metal Provisioning, set near-term priorities and roadmap, and drive execution of major initiatives supporting OCI’s rapidly growing Compute and AI infrastructure. You will partner closely with teams across Compute, Networking, Security, Data Center Engineering, and Hardware Development to enable OCI to launch and scale new server platforms with high reliability and minimal operational overhead.

We are looking for a technically strong engineering leader who can thrive in ambiguity and lead teams solving complex problems across distributed systems, Linux, firmware, and hardware/software interactions. You should be able to move comfortably between strategic planning and deep technical discussions, make sound engineering and business tradeoffs, and cultivate a culture of ownership, automation, operational excellence, and high standards for quality and delivery.

This is a highly visible and impactful role with direct influence on OCI’s ability to bring the latest Compute and GPU infrastructure from new hardware to customer-ready capacity at cloud scale. The successful candidate will have a passion for developing engineers, building reliable infrastructure, simplifying complex systems, and solving challenging problems at the intersection of cloud software and cutting-edge hardware.

Organizational Leadership Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing engineering team responsible for critical Bare Metal Provisioning infrastructure. Create an environment of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement while supporting the professional growth of engineers.

• Architecture & Delivery Oversee the architecture, development, and delivery of highly available, scalable services that automate the bare metal server lifecycle, from hardware bring-up through customer-ready provisioning and firmware management. Guide the team in designing simple, resilient, and automated solutions that operate reliably across OCI’s large and diverse Compute and GPU fleet.
• Strategy & Roadmap Contribute to the technical strategy and roadmap for Bare Metal Provisioning, balancing new platform enablement, service scalability, reliability, security, automation, and reduction of operational overhead. Partner with engineering and product leadership to align investments with OCI Compute and AI infrastructure priorities.
• Hardware & Systems Integration Drive successful enablement of new AMD, Intel, Arm, NVIDIA GPU, networking, and server platforms. Lead engineering efforts that span distributed services, Linux, firmware, BMCs, NICs, SmartNICs, ILOMs, GPUs, and other hardware components, working closely with partner teams to diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues.
• Operational Excellence Build and maintain strong operational practices for critical provisioning services, including on-call readiness, observability, capacity planning, and incident management. Lead complex operational incidents when necessary, drive root-cause analysis and post-mortems, and ensure systemic improvements are made to increase availability and reduce operational burden.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner closely with teams across Compute, Networking, Security, Data Center Engineering, Hardware Development, and other OCI organizations to deliver new platforms and capabilities. Drive clarity on ownership, dependencies, technical requirements, and delivery commitments across organizational boundaries.
• Communication Clearly articulate technical strategy, priorities, risks, tradeoffs, and project outcomes to engineers, partner teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership. Provide the context and “why” behind priorities so teams can make effective decisions and execute with autonomy.

• Hiring and Talent Development Own hiring and team growth while developing engineers and technical leaders through coaching, feedback, career development, and challenging assignments. Build a culture that values technical depth, curiosity, operational rigor, collaboration, and high standards for engineering quality.

Qualifications:

• Leadership Experience 6–10 years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineers or engineering teams.
• Technical Proficiency Strong technical background in software engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, Linux systems, or infrastructure automation. Experience working close to hardware, firmware, networking, server provisioning, or large-scale compute infrastructure is highly valued.
• Systems Problem Solving Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical investigations across multiple layers of the stack, from distributed cloud services through operating systems, networking, firmware, and hardware.
• Execution Proven ability to translate strategic objectives into technical roadmaps and execute complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives with high standards for quality, reliability, and delivery.
• Operational Excellence Experience building and operating production services at scale, including incident management, root-cause analysis, observability, reliability improvements, and automation.
• Communication and Collaboration Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively across engineering teams and organizational boundaries.
• Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Passion for Excellence Demonstrated ability to build strong engineering teams and foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, continuous learning, and customer-focused execution.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $126,200 to $264,100 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
