Job Description

Smart Containers are a key enabler for Hapag-Lloyd’s future value creation — from new revenue streams to substantial operational cost savings. To accelerate this journey, Hapag-Lloyd is establishing a strengthened Smart Container Management department within its Strategy Office with a clear mandate to develop, scale, and embed high-impact use cases across the organization.

As Manager (m/w/d) Smart Container – Use Case Owner, you have the opportunity to rethink and actively shape our way of doing business by realizing creative solutions to integrate smart container data into our operational processes. You will act as an end-to-end owner for selected use cases and core data modules. Your role is to ensure that ideas turn into pilots, pilots turn into scaled solutions, and scaled solutions deliver measurable financial impact. You will work hands-on with Operations experts, IT product teams, and Data Insights & Analytics (DIA) team, with a clear “can-do” attitude: overcoming prioritization conflicts and ensuring delivery.

  • Own selected smart container use cases end-to-end from ideation to global rollout
  • Define value hypotheses, user requirements, success metrics and implementation plans with HQ, Regions and Areas
  • Develop reusable data modules together with DIA and IT as enablers for use cases and identify opportunities to standardize, reuse, and scale use cases across regions and functions
  • Act as point of accountability for progress, quality and value creation of assigned use cases
  • Drive cross-functional delivery by working closely with IT product teams, DIA analytics teams and business owners
  • Proactively manage dependencies, priorities and escalations to keep delivery on track
  • Support the integration of smart container solutions into the broader Hapag-Lloyd system landscape
  • Engage Region and Area colleagues to drive adoption and manage performance
  • University degree in business, engineering, technology, logistics, or comparable business experience and sound experience in product or project management, use case development, analytics-driven initiatives, operations, or IT-facing business roles
  • Knowledge of operational container shipping processes
  • Strong ownership mindset with a proven ability to drive topics end-to-end in complex stakeholder environments and experience in managing cross-functional stakeholders and establishing relationships to foster collaboration
  • Ability to translate between business needs, data/analytics, and IT delivery
  • Comfortable challenging priorities and pushing for delivery without formal line authority
  • Results-driven attitude with a clear focus on measurable financial impact
  • General data affinity required; Smart Container / Internet of Things (IoT) expertise is a plus but not mandatory
  • Fluency in English; additional languages advantageous
