Job Description

Within the Investment & Participation Controlling team of Hapag-Lloyd AG, you will be responsible for the Group investment controlling across our two segments (Liner & Terminal & Infrastructure).

In this position, you will work closely with stakeholders across the organization and contribute to transparent, consistent and value-driven investment decisions. By developing reporting standards, supporting business cases and preparing clear decision-making materials, you will help ensure an optimal allocation of capital at Group level.

Together with the team, you will drive the further development of investment processes, reporting and data structures, enabling improved transparency, alignment and steering of the overall investment portfolio.

  • Drive Group investment controlling and governance across a 2‑segment setup (Liner & Terminal & Infrastructure), ensuring transparency and consistency in decision‑making
  • Own and further develop Group investment reporting and data‑driven tools (e.g., BI dashboards, Capex database), including management views and depreciation tracking, to support efficient investment steering
  • Support and challenge planning and forecasting of Group investments, ensuring alignment across segments
  • Develop and apply capital allocation frameworks and investment KPIs to support sound investment decisions
  • Standardize and improve investment proposals and business case methodologies, including key assumptions across asset classes
  • Prepare and enhance Investment Committee materials and processes to enable clear and structured decision‑making
  • Improve transparency on investment portfolios and allocation buckets in close collaboration with key stakeholders, while contributing to the continuous improvement of investment processes and reporting with a focus on simplicity and reliability
  • Support investment reviews and strategic projects to strengthen financial performance and investment efficiency
  • Completed university degree, e.g. in economics, finance, logistics, engineering, natural sciences or a comparable field – or equivalent qualification with several years of relevant professional experience in investment controlling, financial steering or performance management, ideally in a capital-intensive or international environment
  • Strong understanding of investment evaluation, capital allocation and financial performance metrics (e.g. IRR, ROIC, WACC)
  • Experience in developing and standardizing processes, reporting structures or governance frameworks is a strong advantage
  • High affinity for data, systems and BI tools (e.g. Qlik, Power BI, Tableau), with experience in transforming complex data into actionable insights
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills combined with a structured and solution-oriented working style
  • Ability to manage complexity and align stakeholders across different functions and organizational units
  • Confident communication skills and experience in preparing decision-making materials for senior management, complemented by very good English skills in spoken and written language
  • Independent, reliable and proactive working style with a high level of ownership and attention to detail
