Fuelled by our pursuit of excellence and a quest to innovate, we’re proud to do things differently. Our people are not afraid to disrupt and challenge industry thinking and provide the best protection, savings and retirement reinsurance products and services possible.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager with strong technical skills and experience in biometric risk modelling to join the R&D Medical Analytics team. The team also assesses emerging developments across the health landscape, translating information from a range of sources into actionable business insights.

You will support the Head of Medical Analytics with managing and conducting health-related analytical projects, with a core remit of supporting basis development, pricing and underwriting rules for UK individual and enhanced annuities products. Responsibilities include planning, evidence synthesis, data sourcing, data analysis, model design, validation and results communication. The role requires strong problem solving, project management and stakeholder management skills.

You will work closely with other teams including:

  • R&D teams including the Basis Development, Strategic Analytics teams, and R&D teams in other geographies across the Division

You will be working in a company that values your technical skills, innovative solutions, and your ability to communicate those ideas effectively.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conducting analytical projects to support UK individual and enhanced annuities basis development, including project and stakeholder management
  • Contributing to analytical projects in the Medical Analytics or wider R&D team
  • Contribute to wider research initiatives such as thought leadership articles and building relationships with relevant health analytics networks
  • Support and participate in knowledge sharing in the team, across a range of skills and health-related topics

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Fellow of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries or other similar actuarial organisation; or advanced qualification in a health-related subject (e.g. Masters/PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Data Science or Health Economics)
  • Strong analytical skills and independent problem-solving abilities applied in health-related contexts
  • Excellent organisational skills and able to coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary teams in fast-paced commercial settings
  • Proficient in turning quantitative and qualitative insights into practical and actionable outcomes
  • Experience in explaining complex technical or commercial issues to a variety of audiences, via written and spoken communication
  • Knowledge of modelling techniques such as survival models, disease progression models, simulation models, intervention models and causal inference
  • An understanding of the reinsurance or insurance industry, particularly pricing, underwriting or assumption setting processes. Experience of working with pricing and underwriting teams is particularly advantageous
  • Knowledge of health data standards, health systems organisation or the pharmaceutical life cycle
  • Ability to rapidly appraise medical research and synthesise evidence to inform analyses and commercial decision making
  • Proficient in production-quality statistical programming, using languages such as R or Python
