Northrop Grumman’s Mission Enabling Products (MEP) Business Unit is the leading supplier of aerospace components that enable satellites and aerospace equipment of all classes, provides technical engineering services to government agencies and laboratories, and is developing exciting new satellite servicing and advanced space flight technologies.

Our San Diego, CA location is seeking a Product Center Leader - Manager Manufacturing Operations 1 to join our 1st shift ( 5:00 am – 2:30 pm) team. The Product Center Leader is responsible for complete execution through delivery primarily to internal and external customers. This PCL role will report directly to Site Director of Operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountability for meeting or exceeding the Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee and Cost expectations of internal and external customers across assigned programs. Support and drive continuous improvements to support year-over-year SQDEC goals.
  • Collaboration and coordination with Operations, Engineering, and Business Support Functions to achieve product and site business goals
  • Talent development through the performance management process, including individual and team goal setting, coaching and personnel development, and maintain department training requirements and deploy resources according to skill sets
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are maintained in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules for assigned areas
  • Provide inputs into customer proposals by providing basis of estimates for labor, risks, and schedule durations.
  • Design and execution of staffing strategies to meet/balance customer needs and business objectives.

Vision / Leadership

  • Execute strategies and tactics to achieve breakthrough objectives (Strategy Deployment) and financial goals (Orders, Sales, EBIT, Cash)
  • Communicate, manage and achieve site tactical and strategic goals for assigned process center
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, sharing (yokoten) and disciplined root cause problem solving
  • Own, execute and continuously improve Daily Management (Gemba, Obeya, Stand-Ups, etc.) within assigned Process Center(s)
  • Ensure financial operating integrity by supporting financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ownership and accountability for effective hand-offs through all functional and process center areas
  • Support customer proposals by providing basis of estimates for labor and schedule duration
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are maintained in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules for each assigned area
  • Communicate/escalate key issues related to safety/security, quality, delivery, employee, cost etc. upward to site leadership and downward into the organization

Talent Management

  • Proactively strengthen the process center teams through the performance management process (individual and group goal setting, coaching and personnel development). Provide inputs to performance of Process Center and Functional Leaders.
  • Establish and maintain training requirements and deploy resources accordingly.
  • Ensure succession plans are in place and be proactive in mentoring key talent to assume increased responsibilities.

Compliance

  • Advocate a safe, secure and ethical working environment that maintains compliance with federal, state and local government regulations.
  • Utilize and improve Northrop Grumman Corporation Quality Management System to achieve compliance and maintain certifications for AS9100 and NADCAP.

Direct Report Information

  • Several machinists, machine operators, and painters
  • Dotted-line responsibilities for all product value stream focused support functions (ME, QE, SCM)

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; 3 years of relevant experience with a Masters' degree; 0 years of relevant experience with a PhD; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • At least 3 years of experience in a machining, manufacturing, production, engineering environment
  • At least 2 years of experience in managing direct reports in a machine and/or fabrication shop environment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret Level Security Clearance. (US citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ Years’ experience towards Conventional and CNC Machining
  • 3+ Years’ experience towards Multi-Axis CNC Programming
  • 5+ Years’ experience towards managing a Machine Shop
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing Tools and Techniques
  • Experience in painting and/or prime/plating a plus

Primary Level Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $165,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
