  • Shape Brisbane’s public spaces - delivering a cleaner, greener, and safer city for Australia’s largest local government
  • Oversee a $38 million dollar budget
  • Inspire and engage a geographically dispersed blue-collar workforce

Brisbane City Council is Australia’s largest local government, managing assets worth over $39 billion and delivering services that shape the future of our city. We are seeking an experienced executive to lead our Public Space Operations Branch, a critical delivery arm within the Infrastructure Services Group.

The Infrastructure Services Group (ISG) delivers Council’s asset management, planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance, and transport operations. Within ISG, Public Space Operations is a service delivery, customer focused and commercially driven business that prides itself on keeping Brisbane’s streets and public spaces clean, green and safe for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

Manager Maintenance Services

The Manager Maintenance Services will lead a team and function within Public Space Operations with the goal to deliver critical maintenance services contributing to the liveability and sustainability of Brisbane. This role is responsible for the proactive and reactive maintenance of Brisbane through installation and maintenance of road signs, cleaning of urban precincts and streets and cleaning and maintenance of parkland and street furniture. In addition, this role will have high level leadership of our 24/7 Urban Response function, manage the removal of graffiti across Brisbane and support event management. The role inspires and leads a multidisciplinary team, delivering high‑risk public‑domain works with precision while championing excellence in safety, environmental performance, and governance to support the residents and visitors to Brisbane. The Manager Maintenance Services plays a key role in customer-facing service delivery, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement, while also supporting strategic initiatives and special projects at an executive level.

You will bring strong commercial acumen to lead a large and diverse workforce, manage significant budgets, and ensure high‑quality service delivery through disciplined planning and effective resource management. The successful candidate will excel in stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships that drive impactful outcomes for Brisbane City Council. You will have experience leading a geographically dispersed workforce, consistently lifting performance standards, developing the technical and operational capability of staff, and embedding a strong WHS culture across all teams. You will also demonstrate a proven ability to manage multi‑year programs of work—planning, prioritising, and delivering multiple concurrent projects while maintaining a clear focus on quality, efficiency, and long‑term value. This role will involve where necessary the provision of emergency response and recovery operations and also plays a critical role in coordinating the city’s immediate reaction during disaster events by mobilising teams rapidly and implementing recovery measures efficiently to safeguard the community.

Tertiary qualifications in business management and/or project management (or equivalent) are highly desirable.

Due to the requirements of this role a criminal history and business checks will be undertaken on preferred applicants. A criminal history does not necessarily preclude an applicant from appointment.
