We offer a competitive salary for this role, with an expected range of $133,100–$168,600 and an additional 7% shift differential added to the base salary. The final offer will depend on your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. The 3rd shift Manager – Land Level is a key leadership role accountable for all land level construction operations. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Manager oversees area operations, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards, and collaborates closely with support functions to align production efforts with broader organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:
- Drive safety policies and procedures, with a focus on housekeeping and personal safety
- Lead initiatives to enhance workplace safety and foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Ensure proper training and certification of workforce
Project Execution:
- Manage area plans of the week (POWs) to ensure compliance with current Operational guidelines
- Direct trade performance to meet schedule and cost objectives
- Execute the production plan, ensuring work order completion and milestones are achieved
- Coordinate with support functions to align construction priorities
- Identify non-value-added activities and implement process improvements
Operational Management:
- Lead Area Supervisors, Front Line Supervisors, IPTs, and Planners to resolve challenges using the A3 problem-solving method
- Oversee area performance metrics, reporting on variances and corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with material control procedures
- Prepare weekly area performance reviews
- Maintain/manage area Operational Performance Improvement Plan (OPIP)
Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Ensure effective communication within land level teams and support groups
- Foster teamwork and collaboration among trades and support personnel
- Administer Collective Bargaining Agreement, working with Local S6 and S7 representatives
- Execute manning resource plans for direct, capital, and indirect funding
Continuous Improvement:
- Champion BOS manufacturing principles and productivity enhancements
- Lead process improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, and cost-efficiency
- Implement standardized work processes across the area
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, construction management, engineering or equivalent experience in related field required
- Advanced degree preferred
Required/Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 10 years shipyard experience, minimum 5 years leadership experience
- Demonstrated success in production supervision and management
- Proven ability to execute multiple simultaneous projects
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and methods
- Experience working with union workforce
- Knowledge of structural work processes/operations preferred
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, Access
- Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment and drive results
- Self-motivated with strong team leadership capabilities
