Responsible for supporting Executive Management to ensure responsible for leading Canadian tax compliance, tax accounting, tax controversy, and cross-border tax reporting activities for Mercedes-Benz North America Corporation and its affiliated Canadian entities. Responsible for supporting accounting for income taxes in accordance with IAS12 for MBNAC and Subs as well as all Canadian entities.

Responsibilities:

  • Canadian Corporate Income Tax Compliance (25%)
    Manage the Canadian corporate income tax compliance process for Mercedes-Benz Canadian entities. Ensure accurate and timely preparation and filing of Canadian corporate income tax returns and related tax elections, assess the impact of legislative changes, and oversee tax payments, refund claims, and tax account reconciliations.
  • Canadian Tax Accounting & Provisions (20%)
    Manage the Canadian tax accounting function and review quarterly and annual tax provisions prepared in accordance with IFRS and IAS 12. Review deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analyses, and financial statement disclosures, and ensure accurate reporting of tax positions and tax accounting matters. Support statutory financial reporting requirements for Canadian entities and ensure accurate reporting of tax positions. Coordinate provision-to-return analyses, tax account reconciliations, and supporting documentation for internal and external audit requirements.
  • Tax Audits & Controversy Management (15%)
    Lead Canadian tax audit and controversy matters for Mercedes-Benz Canadian entities. Manage communications with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and other tax authorities, including coordinating responses to information requests, examinations, and audits. Participate in audit defense strategies, collaborate with external advisors, and evaluate potential tax exposures to ensure tax positions are appropriately documented and supported.
  • Transfer Pricing (15%)
    Manage U.S. and Canadian transfer pricing compliance and documentation processes for Mercedes-Benz North America and Mercedes-Benz Canadian entities. Coordinate the maintenance of transfer pricing documentation to ensure compliance with OECD and local jurisdiction requirements. Collaborate with business and finance teams on intercompany transactions and manage responses to transfer pricing audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
  • International Tax Reporting & Withholding Taxes (10%)
    Manage U.S. and Canadian withholding tax compliance obligations, including the review of cross-border payments, treaty-based withholding tax analyses, and related reporting requirements. Support compliance with international information reporting regimes, including FATCA and the Common Reporting Standard (CRS), and ensure timely and accurate maintenance of IRS Forms W-8 and related documentation.
  • U.S. International Tax Compliance (10%)
    Manage U.S. international tax compliance requirements, including protective filings, Tax Residency Certificate requests, FBAR filings, and related international reporting obligations. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure compliance and mitigate tax risk.
  • Advisory, Research & Business Support (5%)
    Provide strategic tax advice to management, support business transactions and restructuring initiatives, identify tax planning opportunities, and assess the impact of legislative developments on U.S. and Canadian operations as needed.

Qualifikationen

Qualifications:

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. at the time of application, however visa sponsorship will be considered. Relocation assistance will be considered.

This position requires a minimum of 10 years of overall work experience. Preferred experience includes:

  • Must have 10+ years of work experience with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm and/or corporate tax department.

  • Must have knowledge of accounting for income taxes and corporate tax compliance.

  • Experience in a management role preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (accredited school) with emphasis in Accounting or Finance required
  • MS in Taxation or Business or LLM in Tax preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required

Additional Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of US tax law and tax compliance processes.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of IAS 12 and IFRS.
  • Ability to evaluate financial statement data, accounting transactions and internal controls.
  • Ability to effectively research tax and tax accounting issues to determine treatment and impact.
  • Ability to lead a team in a time-constrained environment and work with cross functional groups.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Corptax, Alteryx, Adobe and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, organization and communication skills in addition to ability to solve problems and make decisions.
