KiwiRail is undergoing significant transformation to modernise and grow our rail and ferry services across Aotearoa. As Manager, Internal Communications, you will play a key role in leading how we communicate with and engage our people across the organisation.

Reporting to the GM Stakeholder Engagement & Communications, this permanent leadership role will see you develop and deliver internal and change communications strategies that support organisational priorities and performance. You will partner closely with senior leaders to ensure our people are informed, connected, and aligned through periods of change and growth

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading the development and delivery of internal and change communications strategies across KiwiRail
  • Driving leader-led communications and supporting senior leaders to engage their teams effectively
  • Managing and developing a small, high-performing internal communications team
  • Overseeing internal channels including newsletters, intranet, and enterprise messaging
  • Designing and delivering change communication plans, campaigns, and leader toolkits
  • Ensuring consistent, clear, and engaging messaging across a diverse workforce
  • Measuring communication effectiveness and driving continuous improvement
  • Building strong relationships across the business to influence alignment and outcomes

  • Proven experience in internal and change communications within complex organisations
  • Strong experience influencing and partnering with senior leaders
  • Demonstrated people leadership and team development capability
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • A strategic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and impact
