Job Description

The Manager - Innovation plays a critical role in fostering a culture of innovation, driving the development of cutting-edge technologies, and facilitating the transfer of research outcomes to marketable products and services. This role involves overseeing innovation activities, managing the Tech Transfer Office, and collaborating with stakeholders across academia, industry, and government to maximize the impact of the Hub's initiatives.

Strategic Planning & Execution:

  • Develops and implement innovation strategies aligned with the mission and goals for the innovation and tech transfer both clinically as for research.
  • Identifies and prioritize key areas for innovation and technology development.
  • Leads the execution of innovation programs, ensuring alignment with market trends and emerging technologies.

Technology Transfer & Commercialization:

  • Oversees the operations of the Tech Transfer Office, including the management of intellectual property (IP), patents, and licensing agreements.
  • Facilitates the commercialization of research outcomes by connecting inventors with potential industry partners, investors, and commercialization pathways.
  • Negotiates and manages contracts, licenses, and partnerships with external entities to ensure successful technology transfer.

Collaboration & Networking:

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with academic researchers, industry leaders, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Fosters collaborations and partnerships that support innovation and technology transfer activities.
  • Represents the Innovation Hub at conferences, industry events, and meetings to promote the Hub's initiatives and capabilities.

Innovation Program Management:

  • Manages and oversees innovation programs, including incubators, accelerators, and startup support services.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators within the Hub.
  • Monitors and evaluates the progress of innovation projects, ensuring they meet milestones and deliverables.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Tracks and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to innovation activities, technology transfer outcomes, and commercialization success.
  • Provides regular reports for the Director of Research Operations and Services on the progress of innovative initiatives and the impact of the Hub's activities.

Innovation Culture & Thought Leadership:

  • Promotes a culture of innovation within the Hub and the broader community, encouraging creativity, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Stays informed about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in innovation and technology transfer, sharing insights with the team and stakeholders.
  • Supports the director of research operations with execution of the innovation goals and priorities as per the research strategy.

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

ESSENTIALPREFERREDEducationMasters in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Science, Business, Innovation Management). A PhD degree or MBA is preferred.Experience

7-10 years of experience with progressive responsibilities in innovation management, technology transfer, or a related field.

Exceptions to the experience requirement may be granted for Qatari nationals (internal and external candidates), with a reduction of up to two (2) years.

Experience in an academic or research setting is highly desirable.

10 years+ plus people management

Experience in the Guld or Middle East region.

Certification and LicensureProject Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE Certified Innovation Leader (CIL), or Lean Six Sigma certificationJob Specific Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

Strategic thinker with the ability to translate ideas into actionable plans.

Strong leadership and team management abilities.

Demonstrated proven track record of leading innovation initiatives and managing complex projects.

Demonstrable strong understanding of intellectual property management, technology transfer processes, and commercialization strategies.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

Fluency in written and spoken English

Demonstrable strong understanding of intellectual property and innovation in the health care or bio-tech industry.
