Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manager Information Technoogy (SAP Basis) to join our Design Eng Processes team - CAT IT Division.

The preference for this role is to be based out of Bangalore – Caterpillar PSN

This position requires candidate to work a 5-day -a -week schedule.

Shift Timing: 01:00-10:00PM IST

The Information Technology Manager leads a global team of technical professionals responsible for stability, security, performance, compliance, continuous improvement of the organization's SAP & QAD ecosystem and related enterprise platforms in alignment with business requirements. Accountabilities include SAP Basis administration, infrastructure support, incident and major issue management, technical escalations, vulnerability management, implementation of SAP Security Notes and Support Packages, backup and disaster recovery, system monitoring, automation, and operational excellence. The role also provides leadership for SAP ecosystem risk assessments, technical governance, platform modernization, upgrade and patching strategies, and the execution of SAP upgrades, enhancement packs, and technology refresh initiatives. The position is responsible for building organizational capabilities, establishing priorities, managing budgets and strategic vendor relationships, and serving as the primary technical leader for enterprise ERP infrastructure.

Job Duties:

  • Own and drive all incidents, service tasks, problem tickets and system optimization for operations portfolio, ensuring delivery against commitments, SLAs, and outcomes.
  • Establish, monitor, and continuously improve standard work; ensure progress, risks, and dependencies are communicated effectively to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Manage and develop a multi-disciplinary organization delivering business and technical solutions, including process functionality, technical capability, and automation.
  • Partner with business units and decision makers to support day-to-day operations, incident/problem resolution, and continuous service improvement.
  • Implement and govern common operating procedures, controls, and metrics to strengthen quality, compliance, and operational resilience.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing IT teams, foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
  • Execute multiple priorities & business requirements. Develops solutions that best meet the needs of the enterprise, with options to meet differentiated business capabilities as needed.
  • Develops & manages IT budget for area of accountability.
  • Delivers highly available, leading IT services through best-in-class service level management practices with the ability to flex with changing business demands.

What You Will Have:

  • Organizational Leadership: Knowledge of leadership concepts and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives.
  • Technical Leadership: Leading global teams in enterprise application, infrastructure, or ERP support environments.
  • Deep expertise across the SAP ecosystem, including SAP Basis, HANA, Security (GRC/IAM), Integration, Cloud technologies, and related infrastructure platforms.
  • Gen AI Assisted Development or Support: Practical experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot or automated agent workflows) to accelerate application development or support, cost or effort reduction, or support optimization. Demonstrated experience with AI tools
  • Experience managing contracts and vendor relationships
  • A Lean or Continuous Improvement background.
  • An ability to translate between technical and business language, creating a bridge between the support organization and the Caterpillar business they serve.
  • Experience as a leader in the IT space.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Proven track record of leading SAP upgrades, support pack implementations, vulnerability remediation programs, disaster recovery planning, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Ability to establish and mature operating models, governance frameworks, service-level metrics, automation strategies, and continuous improvement programs that enhance customer experience while optimizing operational costs.
  • Extensive experience in working with cross-functional teams, along with proven history of strong job-related results
  • Execute business objectives through collaboration and decisive action. Provide guidance to the team in resolving issues in a timely manner and lead technical teams with focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and/or direct teams within or outside of discipline addressing complex problems. Experience in managing teams working across multiple locations working from satellite office location's
  • Strong stakeholder management skills

People Leadership / Scope

Directly lead Technology Specialists, Information Systems Specialists, and application/technical/operations teams within the division; drive performance management, coaching, succession planning, and a culture of collaboration and accountability.

Additional Duties

Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.

Education / Experience: Requires a relevant computer science masters or graduate degree and 10 plus years of progressively complex Information Service experience including staff and supervisory assignments in Information Services and related areas. Requires general understanding of basic business operations including one or more of the following: general business processes, technical infrastructure, application development and support of major projects, and engineering functional applications. The incumbent must have ability to provide strategic direction for effectively managing staff, budgets, business plans, project plans and developing 2-5-year plans on Information Services. Requires ability to work with diversified departments along with effective oral and written communications skills. The incumbent must have a strong customer focus and business knowledge. The position also requires to work efficiently with integration partners, technology vendors, and managed service partners.
