Job Description

Position Summary

The Manager in Training (MIT) position is designed to develop future leaders within Waste Connections. This role provides hands-on training in operations, safety, customer service, maintenance, sales, financial management, and employee leadership. The MIT will work closely with district leadership to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to assume a supervisory or management position within the organization.

Schedule: 8:00am start time averaging approximately 8-10 hours/day.

Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in a structured training program focused on all aspects of district operations.
  • Learn and support daily hauling, disposal, maintenance, and customer service operations.
  • Develop an understanding of safety policies, environmental compliance requirements, and company operating procedures.
  • Analyze operational and financial reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist supervisors and managers with employee coaching, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Build relationships with drivers, technicians, customer service representatives, and other team members.
  • Participate in route observations, safety meetings, and operational reviews.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Learn budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control processes.
  • Complete special projects assigned by district and regional leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent leadership or industry experience may be considered.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and solve operational problems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate for future advancement opportunities if needed.
