The Manager: Impairment, Capital & Regulatory Reporting is responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of impairment, IFRS 9, capital analytics, stress testing, credit reporting and related regulatory reporting activities.

The role translates the strategic direction set by the Head into clear implementation plans, analytical deliverables and controlled reporting processes. It ensures that impairment calculations, model monitoring, portfolio analysis and regulatory reporting are completed accurately, within agreed timelines and in accordance with approved methodologies, policies and governance standards.

The Manager leads and develops a team of specialist and general credit analysts. The role reviews and challenges analytical outputs, allocates work, manages delivery priorities and ensures that material risks, model concerns and reporting issues are appropriately resolved or escalated.

Responsibilities and KRA’s

Impairment & IFRS 9 Oversight

  • Manage the end-to-end impairment production and oversight process, including expected credit loss calculations, staging assessments, impairment movements, management overlays and supporting commentary.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, recalibration and performance monitoring of PD, EAD, LGD, macroeconomic and loan valuation models, ensuring that methodologies remain appropriate and fit for purpose.
  • Review and challenge impairment results, assumptions and model outputs, investigating material movements or anomalies and escalating significant matters to the Head and relevant governance forums.
  • Ensure that impairment methodologies, supporting documentation and production processes comply with IFRS 9, internal credit risk policies, governance requirements and approved controls.

Business Planning Support & Risk Appetite Analytics

  • Manage the delivery of impairment forecasts, portfolio analytics and risk appetite reporting required for business planning, budgeting and portfolio strategy.
  • Monitor portfolio performance against approved risk appetite measures, including credit losses, NPL ratios, arrears, roll rates, cure rates, coverage levels and other relevant indicators.
  • Translate portfolio and economic trends into forward-looking insights, recommendations and risk mitigation actions for consideration by senior Risk and Business stakeholders.
  • Support sustainable portfolio growth and risk-adjusted profitability by identifying concentrations, emerging risks and opportunities to improve credit outcomes.

Capital Management & Stress Testing

  • Manage the analytical delivery of capital, stress testing and scenario analysis activities within the scope of the function.
  • Oversee the application of macroeconomic scenarios and assess their impact on expected credit losses, capital requirements and portfolio performance.
  • Review stress testing results, assumptions and management commentary, ensuring that key portfolio vulnerabilities and risk drivers are clearly identified.
  • Promote appropriate alignment between impairment, capital, business planning and stress testing assumptions, while escalating material inconsistencies or model limitations.

Regulatory Reporting & Compliance

  • Manage the preparation, review and timely submission of impairment, capital, credit risk and related regulatory reporting deliverables.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate review, reconciliation, sign-off and evidence-retention controls to support the completeness and accuracy of reported information.
  • Interpret relevant regulatory, accounting and policy requirements and coordinate the implementation of changes affecting the team’s models, processes or reports.
  • Monitor the resolution of regulatory, audit, validation and compliance findings, ensuring that agreed corrective actions are completed within committed timelines.

Credit Reporting

  • Oversee the production of accurate, timely and decision-useful credit, impairment and model monitoring reports for management and governance stakeholders.
  • Ensure that reporting clearly explains portfolio quality, impairment movements, emerging risks, key concentrations and performance against risk appetite.
  • Review analytical commentary and recommendations before submission, ensuring that conclusions are supported by reliable data and appropriate analysis.
  • Drive the automation, standardisation and continuous improvement of credit reporting, data validation and management information processes.

Stakeholder Engagement, Audit & Governance

  • Build trusted relationships across functional and leadership levels, ensuring clear accountability for data, assumptions, deliverables and issue resolution.
  • Embed effective governance practices across the team by maintaining appropriate documentation, review standards, control evidence and escalation processes.
  • Support the Head in senior audit, governance and regulatory engagements by providing technically sound analysis and implementation updates.
  • Promote constructive challenge, collaboration and knowledge sharing across the impairment and broader Credit Risk environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience across impairment, IFRS 9, credit risk analytics, portfolio management, modelling, capital analytics, stress testing or regulatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex analytical deliverables and providing technical review and challenge within a controlled reporting environment.
  • Experience leading, coaching or supervising analysts, including the prioritisation and quality assurance of team outputs.
  • Strong stakeholder management capability, with the ability to communicate technical results and recommendations clearly to senior, technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in a banking, lending or broader financial services environment, with exposure to audit, model governance or regulatory processes.

Technical

  • Advanced understanding of IFRS 9 impairment methodologies expected credit loss measurement, staging, forward-looking information and management overlays.
  • Strong knowledge of PD, EAD, LGD, macroeconomic and valuation models, including development, recalibration and performance monitoring principles.
  • Sound understanding of credit portfolio analytics, capital management, stress testing, risk appetite and regulatory reporting.
  • Proficiency in analytical and reporting tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Excel or equivalent technologies.
  • Strong capability in data governance, model documentation, reporting controls, analytical review and process automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Quantitative Risk Management, Data Science or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a quantitative, risk, finance or actuarial discipline would be advantageous.
  • 6 to 9 years’ experience in credit risk analytics, impairment, IFRS 9, model development, model monitoring, portfolio analytics or quantitative risk management.
  • Experience with impairment model development, recalibration, monitoring or validation.
  • Experience working with large datasets, analytical programming tools and credit risk reporting.
  • Banking, lending or broader financial services experience would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience leading analysts or coordinating the work of specialist and generalist analytical resources
