Directs the activities of the Healthcare Technology Management (Biomedical Engineering) department and staff to ensure safe, reliable, and cost effective equipment for patients, staff and visitors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Associate Degree in Engineering (Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical) or related field OR;

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical) or related field OR;

Certificate in Engineering (Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical) or related field

EXPERIENCE:

1. Four (4) years of Biomedical experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor’s degree OR Master’s degree in Engineering (Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical) or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Six (6) years of Biomedical hospital experience.

2. Four (4) years of Management experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Oversees the ongoing development and operation of the Equipment Management Program to ensure its effectiveness in meeting the regulatory, financial, and operational needs of the hospital.

2. Directs and coordinates the activities of Biomedical Engineering staff to ensure safe, timely, and cost effective completion of equipment inspections and repairs.

3. Reports to the Safety Committee regularly and to other hospital groups as needed on the effectiveness of the Equipment Management Program, as monitored by documentation review.

4. Informs user department managers of their department's equipment status with respect to applicable standards, as monitored by documentation review. Assists with capital equipment plan and budgets.

5. Monitors equipment inspection procedures and schedules to ensure devices receive appropriate maintenance for continued safe and reliable operation and meet the requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies (JCAHO, OSHA, NFPA, State and Local Authorities).

6. Communicates with customers, management team, AVP and other WVUHS Biomed managers and directors to coordinate WVUHS Biomed activities.

7. Manages technicians training to ensure proper level of expertise and proper division of work for technicians.

8. Responsible for all fiscal matters pertaining to Biomedical Engineering.

9. Evaluates the need for service contracts, and the finds the lowest cost option for all equipment: time and materials verses service contract.

10. Communicates with departments and vendors to ensure appropriate equipment use and availability, in both the short and long term.

11. Manages department to maximize customer satisfaction. Conducts an annual customer survey to measure this.

12. Continually seeks education and training opportunities.

13. Demonstrates regard for the dignity, respect and safety of all patients, family members, visitors and Hospital Personnel as defined in the philosophy of the organization.

14. Adheres to Information Security policies in work practice and protects loss of PHI through Biomed devices.

15. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the Hospital's goals and objectives.
