What You’ll Do:
As the HSE in Operations for Iberia, you will lead the practical implementation of Northland Power’s HSE Management System across our operating sites, ensuring a strong and visible presence in the field. In this role you will partner with site teams, contractors, and frontline workers to embed a proactive, safety-first culture and ensure full alignment with legal, regulatory, and company requirements.
Your role goes beyond compliance, you’ll be the visible face and point of contact for HSE across our operational assets, working side-by-side with teams to identify risks, improve practices, and drive accountability. You’ll support training, emergency preparedness, subcontractor oversight, and incident investigations, ensuring operational HSE is not only consistent but continuously improving.
This role requires willingness to travel across our operational sites for approximately 60% of your working time.

Key Responsibilities:

HSE Leadership & Culture Development

  • Lead the implementation of the HSE Management System across Iberian operational sites, with strong on-site presence to engage directly with site teams and frontline personnel.
  • Champion a safety-first culture by promoting visible HSE leadership and supporting initiatives that strengthen HSE awareness, behaviour, and ownership.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for operational HSE matters, representing HSE interests toward site teams, internal functions, service providers, and HSE regulatory authorities.

HSE System Implementation & Compliance

  • Develop and ensure consistent application of HSE Operational Control Procedures and maintain up-to-date compliance matrices aligned with legal, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Regularly review and update local compliance matrices ensuring new regulatory requirements are incorporated within the site HSE Operational control Procedures.
  • Review and update site-specific HSE plans and ensure robust subcontractor HSE management, including prequalification, safety plans, and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Oversee adherence to HSE Employer Requirements across operational and service scopes.

Emergency Preparedness & Risk Management

  • Develop, review, and support implementation of Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and lead regular drills at operational sites.
  • Evaluate RAMS and operational instructions for integration of risk controls and contribute to the development and maintenance of site and regional HSE risk registers.

Training & Competence

  • Assess site-specific HSE training needs and support the creation and maintenance of training matrices aligned with legal and company requirements.
  • Coordinate delivery of internal and external training programs, including annual HSE inductions for operational teams.
  • Ensure training records for site personnel and contractors are properly retained.
  • Conduct spot audits to ensure sites are maintaining their records.

Site Support & Oversight

  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections, verifying compliance, identifying improvements, and supporting local teams in achieving their HSE goals.
  • Contribute to audits, compliance verifications, HSE budget planning, and, where applicable, fulfill statutory coordination and representation roles.

Incident Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Support incident investigations, ensure root causes are identified, and lead the close-out of incidents, non-conformities, and deficiencies.
  • Share lessons learned through structured safety communications and track HSE performance indicators to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support rollout of company and site-level HSE programs (e.g., LOTO, Working at Heights, Vehicle Safety, etc.).

Who You Are:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree (B.Sc.) in occupational health, safety management, environmental science, engineering or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing HSE management systems and applying ISO standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive HSE experience, preferably in operational roles within energy, utilities, or industrial sectors. Experience in renewable energy is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge about local HSE legislation, standards, codes, management system and industry practices.
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, coach, and build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors and oversee compliance in multi‑contractor environments, in line with Spanish Coordinación de Actividades Empresariales (CAE) requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (English and Spanish)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Valid provincial driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
