Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Understand the LAIO safety management system & framework and stay updated on all relevant regulations in the country of operations
  • Liaise with client representatives to understand the contractual obligations and expectations on the assigned project with respect to occupational health and safety (OH&S)
  • Proactively identify and assess occupational health and safety risks associated with the project
  • Develop OH&S procedures for the project and create project safety plan aligned to the overall project management plan; Seek approval from supervisor on the same
  • Guide registered safety officers to carry out formal inspection of the construction sites, workplace, work tasks and documents
  • Guide team to evaluate subcontractor on a monthly basis for their OH&S performance and take suitable actions as required (eg. course correction, holding back safety incentives, if need be, etc.)
  • Lead the investigation process for HSE incidents at project level and support detailed due diligence to identify the reasons for the incident; Direct corrective measures to resolve the same and avoid recurrence
  • Participate in monthly project meetings, help resolve any identified OH&S issues and identify performance improvement initiatives
  • Guide subordinates on creation of relevant reports with respect to the quality of audit/inspections, incident management & investigation, trainings, etc.
  • Analyze and report the project’s safety performance statistics to supervisor and Head Office (class 1 incidents) on a periodic basis
  • Participate in bi-annual external audits and submit audit reports to the Labor Department
  • Share regularly OH&S information, risks and procedures with the subordinates and project teams including the sub-contractor teams
  • Guide team to conduct safety awareness programs and induction session for new workers
  • Guide team to conduct training need analysis for construction workers, conduct training programs and evaluate effectiveness of these programs
  • Support subordinates on identification of OH&S risks internally as well as externally (sub-contractors and suppliers) and resolve any identified OH&S issue
  • Develop and implement a rewards and recognition program for construction workers to ensure compliance with OH&S procedures and regulations
