Position Summary

The Helicopter Services Manager provides administrative and operational leadership by overseeing the daily operations, staffing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance of the air medical transport program. This role coordinates flight crew activities, supports operational readiness, and works closely with aviation partners to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered air medical services. Collaborating with clinical, operational, and regulatory stakeholders, the manager helps maintain high performance standards while ensuring alignment with Trinity Health policies and applicable aviation and healthcare regulations. Through organized leadership, clear communication, and a team-focused approach, the position supports reliable air medical operations and quality patient care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the air medical transport program, including staffing, scheduling, and coordination of clinical and aviation resources.
  • Collaborate with aviation partners, clinical leadership, and regulatory bodies to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
  • Monitor performance metrics, quality indicators, and safety reports; lead improvement efforts as needed.
  • Support budgeting, resource allocation, and strategic planning for helicopter services.
  • Participate in outreach, education, and relationship building activities with referring facilities and community partners.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and evaluation for flight staff; promote a culture of safety and high performance.

Qualifications: Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.
  • ACLS, PALS and BLS certification is required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification in the area of practice is desirable.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred, but not required.
  • RN program as evidenced by licensure.
  • Official diploma or transcript from the school/university where the Degree was received.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience in flight service is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in nursing practice, which includes a supervisory/leadership role.

Physical Requirements

The Helicopter Services Manager requires the ability to work in confined aircraft spaces for extended periods, including standing, sitting, and kneeling while providing patient care; frequently lifting, carrying, and positioning patients and equipment; and maintaining balance and coordination in a moving aircraft. Team members must be able to lift, push, or pull at least 50 pounds and assist with heavier loads as part of a team. Adequate vision, hearing, and communication abilities are essential for safe patient care and coordination in the aviation environment.

Environmental Requirements

Work is performed in helicopters and other air medical transport settings as well as healthcare facilities and outdoor environments, with potential exposure to vibration, noise, weather extremes, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and emotionally stressful situations. Duties involve working in confined spaces and following strict aviation and safety protocols. Use of PPE is required, and variable schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and oncall duty may be necessary.
