Manager - Head of Range, Space & Merchandising
ROLE SUMMARY
Lead the range, space, merchandising, and commercial income agenda across the store network. The role shapes how categories are planned, displayed, and promoted to improve category performance, the customer shopping experience, retail productivity, and sustainable commercial income.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own space allocation across categories, aligning shelf space to sales, margin, customer demand and brand priorities to maximize return per square foot.
- Set merchandising principles and standards and create and govern planograms for consistent execution across stores while allowing for local market needs.
- Partner with Category Managers and Senior Buyers on range reviews, space planning and merchandising strategies to optimize category performance.
- Plan and lead promotional and feature space execution, including gondola ends, bulk displays, seasonal activations and high-impact retail theatre.
- Own and grow supplier-funded commercial income through secondary displays, feature space, in-store media and visibility opportunities, supporting related negotiations while protecting the customer proposition.
- Monitor and report on space productivity, space utilization and commercial income, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with Buying, Operations, Marketing and Store teams to ensure merchandising standards and promotions are executed effectively.
- Drive continuous improvement in space planning, merchandising effectiveness and commercial income practices.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Business management, Marketing, Retail Management, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
- Professional qualifications in Retail Management, Category Management, Merchandising, or Marketing will be an advantage.
- 7–10 years of experience in retail, supermarket, category management, merchandising, space planning, or commercial operations.
- Proven experience in planogram development, space optimization, merchandising strategy, and retail execution.
- Experience managing supplier commercial agreements that generate incremental revenue.
- Strong analytical skills in interpreting sales, margin, stock, and productivity data to drive decisions.
- Experience in a large-format retail or supermarket environment will be a distinct advantage.
