Manager, Grants and Research – Government and Research Grants

The Government & Research Grant Manager is responsible for overseeing all government and research grant administration activities for the organization. This role ensures that all proposals, applications, and award processes meet internal, sponsor, and regulatory standards. The Manager maintains comprehensive records of funding sources, submissions, and awards, and provides leadership support and direction to post-award management.

The position requires strong analytical skills, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple moderately complex projects independently while collaborating across departments. The Manager serves as the primary point of contact for government and research grants and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with Uniform Guidance, sponsor requirements, and institutional policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all government grants (local, state, federal) and research grants.
  • Review Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and meet with PIs/PDs to develop a roadmap for submission.
  • Manage the Grant Intake Form, prepare addenda, coordinate legal review, and secure required approvals and authorized signatures.
  • Create and maintain shared-drive folders for all grant applications and awards by year.
  • Delegate grant projects to team members for ongoing management.
  • SAGE Administrator: Serve as the main point of contact for membership, application completion, and approval workflows.
  • NIH Grants Administrator: Oversee NIH submissions through grants.gov, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission from inception through Notice of Award (NOA).
  • Maintain AH Authorized Official credentials in grants.gov and eRA Commons.
  • Oversee annual System for Award Management (SAM) registration, coordinating with internal departments to ensure accurate responses and timely renewal.
  • Serve as FFATA/FSRS Subaward Reporting Administrator, ensuring accurate reporting of all federal subcontracts.
  • Oversee subrecipient monitoring, including risk assessments and documentation for federal sub-awards.
  • Maintain and update internal forms and documents related to government and research grants (e.g., W-9, Indirect Rate, Fringe Rate, EOE statements).
  • Ensure compliance with Uniform Grant Guidance (UGG) and other federal regulations.
  • Maintain and oversee the annual database of awarded and pending grants. Cash receipts and accruals report on all awarded and open.
  • Continuously review and lead optimization efforts.
  • Prepare and deliver quarterly grant reports to senior leadership.
  • Special projects as directed by the Director, Research Operations – Sponsored Projects, or the VP of Research.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • 5–8 years of progressively responsible experience in sponsored research administration, government grants, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience with federal grant systems (e.g., grants.gov, eRA Commons, SAM, FFATA/FSRS, SAGE).
  • Strong leadership qualities with experience supervising or mentoring staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, maintain accuracy, and work both independently and collaboratively.
