Wunan is seeking a qualified & experienced person to Manage the Governance & Leadership Program.

Position Purpose

The Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating and delivering governance training, organisational capacity building, and compliance support.

The role ensures the organisation meets legislative, business and reporting obligations, strengthens leadership capability, and supports the development of strategic direction and long‑term sustainability.

This position plays a key role in improving governance, management practices, and community outcomes through culturally responsive, place‑based engagement.

Essential

  • Experience in governance organisational development, community services or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of compliance, legislative obligations and corporate governance.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal organisations or remote communities.
  • High‑level communication, facilitation and training skills.
  • Ability to travel to remote communities.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills in developing systems and processes to effectively manage and deliver outcomes ability to work effectively to achieve common goals across a range of partners and stakeholders, including government, NGO, business and community
  • Demonstrate financial management and budgeting skills
  • Experience in applying quality improvement principles
  • Positive attitude and commitment to Wunans’ social change and economic participation mission.

Desirable

  • Qualifications in Business,Community Development, Governance, Management or similar.
  • Experience in strategic planning or organisational capacity building.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous culture and the issues/challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and experience working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Qualification in business or public policies

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Compliance

  • Deliver governance training to the Board of Directors, including roles, responsibilities, decision‑making and risk management.
  • Support Kurungal Council to meet legislative, regulatory and business compliance requirements.
  • Assist with developing and monitoring a repayment plan for outstanding NIAA debts.
  • Knowledge of NIAA programs, Indigenous governance frameworks or similar funding have a familiarity with Government programs, particularly relating to Aboriginal employment and enterprise
  • Ensure all activities align with WHS, WWVP, and organisational policies.

Strategic Planning & Organisational Development

  • Lead the development of a draft and final Strategic Plan in collaboration with the Board and community stakeholders.
  • Identify economic, cultural and social opportunities to strengthen organisational sustainability.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and support to improve leadership capability and operational effectiveness.

Pre-employment requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
  • Current Working with children clearance
  • Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
