Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Global Accounting CoE is to serve as the global accounting subject matter experts. Members of the CoE obtain an understanding of current company-wide accounting policies, ensure the Company’s processes adhere to those accounting policies and operationalize accounting with a focus on standardization and efficiency. Accounting areas covered by the Accounting CoE are revenue, accounts receivable, cash, inventory, long-lived assets and intercompany. This position will work closely with other CoE Managers, but have a primary focus on corporate functions, including treasury & risk management, benefits and general accounting. The position requires the ability to manage multiple on-going initiatives, several of which may be project based, across different stakeholders. There will be exposure to various cross functional teams including Global Reporting, Accounting Policy, Controllership, Sherwin Business Services (SBS), Commercial Finance, Treasury and HR/Benefits.

This position is not hybrid/remote and will be located at our Global Headquarters in Cleveland, OH.

Because this role involves access to confidential financial information, the Company has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and to provide similar protections for its clients and potential investments.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Become a student of and eventual subject matter expert in treasury, benefits and general accounting processes and policies at the Company, including the respective underlying US GAAP. Work with various cross functional teams (Global Reporting, Accounting Policy, Controllership, SBS, Commercial Finance, Treasury and HR/Benefits) to prepare and update process documentation for various process streams using flowcharts. This includes documenting the procedures and assumptions/standardization efforts so that transactions are accounted for consistently and accurately across the organization.

  • Evaluate and refine the Company’s manual journal entry processes. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to assess risks, strengthen controls, and support improvements to the Company’s MJE framework.

  • Collaborate with Corporate Controllership and HR/Benefits teams to review, improve, and document processes related to stock options, benefits, healthcare, insurance, and other related accounting areas.

  • Partner with Treasury and Risk Management to enhance, standardize, and document key cash management processes, including developing a streamlined approach to align the Company’s bank accounts with the appropriate general ledger accounts and risk management processes such as the Company’s various lines of insurance.

  • Lead and support process documentation efforts across various functions by developing and maintaining flowcharts, standard procedures, and accounting assumptions. Ensure global consistency and, update related global accounting policies.

  • Be willing to take on special projects and initiatives within the Accounting CoE with a focus on being a business partner to others across the organization.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Major in Accounting or Finance

Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant, or candidate in the process of sitting for CPA exam

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of accounting, finance, or auditing experience
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Preferred:

  • Public accounting experience, particularly Big 4

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Detail-oriented and well-organized, including project management skills
  • Ability to think critically and suggest solutions

  • Strong desire to learn and continuously improve

  • Experience with Oracle General Ledger
  • Experience with OneStream
  • Experience with Lucernex
