Purpose of the role

The Geology Manager reports to the Mine Technical Manager and is a key member of the Mine’s senior management team. The incumbent will use their geoscientific knowledge and leadership skills to manage, guide and direct the Mine Geology team in the development of the mineral resource value for mining and processing. Key to this role is the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders in order to integrate technical geology skills with the business.

Job & Candidate Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that a THINK safety work culture is maintained.
  • Manages and reports on Mining Geology Key Performance Areas, including:
  • Mine Geology performance assessment for optimisation and planning
  • Annual Budgeting process and Mine Geology costs
  • Data acquisition, QAQC and data management
  • Geology modelling
  • Block model estimation
  • Resource to reserve conversion and relevance to mine planning
  • Ore Control and mining
  • Reconciliation, and
  • Governance and regulation.
  • Works with the management team in developing and delivering to plan.
  • Directs the work, mentoring and training of the Mining Geology geoscientific team.
  • Leads planning with accurate block model estimates, for delivery of consistent ore feed via ore control.
  • Leads and organizes key activities for reducing/controlling ore dilution and loss.
  • Integrates the Mining Geology function with planning, blasting, mining and processing for improving operational and processing efficiencies.
  • Supports planning, mining and processing with relevant and timely geological information.
  • Identifies and develops feasible metal opportunities including near mine Mineral Resource development, and
  • Leads technical innovation and direction thereof.

Qualifications Required:

  • A recognized geoscience tertiary qualification.
  • Membership of a Recognized Professional Organisation (ROPO) as per NI43-101.
  • A recognised qualification in Business Management/leadership is preferred.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • A minimum of 10 years relevant experience with at least 5 years in a senior production role.
  • Proven technical experience in the following areas:
  • Geological data collection
  • Database management
  • Geology knowledge, modelling and problem solving
  • Geostatistics
  • Ore control
  • Reconciliation, and
  • Planning.
  • Exceptional management skills, including:
  • Strong leadership skills for motivating, goal setting and decision making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Informed decision making
  • Strategic thinking for identifying trends and longer term planning
  • Emotional intelligence including self-awareness and managing emotions of others
  • Delegation, and
  • Conflict management.
  • Knowledge of relevant production software is an advantage (Datamine, Leapfrog, Datashed, Snowden Supervisor, Surpac, Mine scheduling software, Wenco, Modular or other mining software).
