Location: Washington, DC - Hybrid

Salary Range: $71,000 - $92,500 - $114,000

Corus International is seeking a Manager, General Accounting to join the Finance & Administration team. This position reports to the Director, General Accounting and can be based in the Washington, DC, or Baltimore Maryland office. This is a hybrid-remote position, working two days each week in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Manager, General Accounting is responsible for overseeing key day-to-day accounting functions, including global accounts payable and disbursements, corporate credit card, general ledger reconciliation, and audit support. This role is accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial transactions and reporting while maintaining strong internal controls and audit readiness. Additionally, the Manager oversees and reviews work performed by staff, drives process improvements, and ensures compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

General Ledger Maintenance and Month-End and Year-end Closure

  • Ensure consistent accounting treatment across all entities and business units.
  • Prepare or review month-end and year-end balance sheet reconciliations and schedules.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring all transactions comply with GAAP and internal policies and procedures.
  • Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare general ledger entries, ensuring proper classification of transactions and entries.
  • Review and approve fixed asset and inventory schedules.

Global Accounts Payable Management

  • Own and manage global accounts payable, expense management, and disbursement processes, ensuring proper controls and compliance.
  • Reconcile the Account Payable subledger and generate related aging reports.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure accounts payable and disbursement operations are maintained in an audit-ready state.
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships, resolve disputes and negotiating payment terms.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and productivity.
  • Partner with accounting leaders and staff and IT in support of system enhancements, implementations, and integrations.

General Accounting & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure strong internal controls across all areas of responsibility.
  • Contribute to annual audit activities and Form 990 preparation to include preparation of audit schedules, supporting documentation and memos.
  • Interpret finance policies and provide guidance, coding assistance and instruction to staff.
  • Perform certain duties of other accounting personnel during absences.
  • Serve as the designated back-up to the US payroll function.
  • Lead or contribute to special accounting projects and analyses assigned.

Staff Leadership & Cross-Functional Support

  • Oversee and provide guidance, review, and technical support to direct reports and other team members as needed.
  • Serve as a primary contact for internal stakeholders regarding Accounts Payable and disbursement procedures, coding guidance, and operational questions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Human Resources, Fundraising, Programs, and Operations to resolve accounting issues, strengthen controls, and improve workflows.

Supervisory:

  • This position supervises one Senior Accountant.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Minimum five years of relevant general accounting experience including A/P, A/R, G/L, and other similar accounting functions.
  • Experience must include direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Experience with an ERP financial system implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting operations.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
  • Ability to review and ensure accuracy of others' work.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to drive process improvements and operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of US payroll.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct ERP.
  • Experience with Tipalti or similar cloud-based Accounts Payable and Expense Management solutions.
  • Experience working in an international nonprofit organization or multi-entity environment.

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment

  • Corus has a hybrid work policy, allowing work to be done remotely; two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday) in the office is required.  The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours or weekends as required.
  • This position must be able to travel as required for standard domestic business purposes.
  • Must have authorization to work in the country of assignment.
