Job Description
The Manager will report directly to the Senior Manager, FR&A Lodging Accounting & Reporting and be an integral member of the team. This highly motivated individual will have a wide range of responsibilities supporting several key processes, which include reporting and analysis of P&L operating results, assisting in the annual Business Plan and Budget consolidation, support of special projects and team initiatives, as well as responding to ad hoc requests from internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the periodic and quarterly consolidated reporting and analysis for Marriott’s Lodging segments. Partner with various departments to ensure activity is recorded in accordance with GAAP, analyzing the profit & loss statements, profit bridges, and other financial and statistical supporting schedules, as well as preparation of variance explanations.
- Manage the statistical data review process for properties. Determine if all data is being reported consistently and completely. Evaluate and report on trends and resolve issues through cross functional collaboration.
- Assist in the preparation of lodging segments analysis bridges for continent & senior leadership and to satisfy external reporting requirements.
- Manage the P&L forecasting process for specific financial statement lines, ensuring completeness, reasonableness, and accuracy through partnering with various stakeholders across global finance.
- Review, analyze and identify causes of variances in reports.
- Utilize technology to create efficiencies and reduce manual effort during the various close cycles.
- Business Plan and Budget Reporting
- Manage the end-to-end processes of the annual business plan for assigned P&L line items, coordinating across continent and other corporate teams to ensure system accuracy, analytical completeness and clear variance explanations.
- Assist in the preparation of the business plan presentation to the continent and senior management.
- Oversee validation and governance of annual budget submissions and Q1 guidance within financial systems, ensuring alignment between ledger activity and management reporting requirements.
- Other Additional Responsibilities
- Prepare schedules required in support of the external audit for all lodging segments, including interim and year-end PBC’s.
- Serve as division level system owner, providing oversight for requests related to system maintenance, comp set changes, operating unit setup approvals, combo edit requests, and chartfield ownership changes.
- Assist in educating and supporting Global Finance Partners ensuring consistent reporting and application of best practices.
- Additional projects and tasks assigned by Senior Manager.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders regarding updates to financial system metadata.
- Leverage various reporting tools including HFM, Essbase, SmartView, EPM and others to ensure more efficient and accurate preparation and analysis of financial statements.
- Maintain various other reporting tools used by the FR&A Lodging Accounting & Reporting team as assigned.
KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE
- At least four years of progressive job experience in accounting.
- Effective decision-making ability – analyze relevant options and escalate where appropriate. Strong accounting and systems skills. Must have experience with Excel. PowerBI, Peoplesoft and Hyperion (i.e. MIGL, EPM, HFM, Essbase Cubes) experience preferred.
- Detail oriented, self-starter, and highly motivated. Proactive in identifying and solving issues.
- Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects while meeting required goals and deadlines.
- Effective in communicating project status and following through on commitments.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills – ability to develop alternatives and solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work effectively with peers and all levels of management in a collaborative work environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related discipline required
- This position will be based at MI Corporate Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.
