Summary:

The Fleet Manager - South Region oversees Driver Managers and manages escalated issues for assigned Ambassadors (drivers) to ensure safe and efficient fleet operations. This role is responsible for asset and driver utilization, performance management, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations, including hours of service. The Fleet Manager leads dispatch operations, coordinates logistics activities for timely and efficient deliveries, and drives operational excellence through effective team leadership, process improvement, and customer service.

Responsibilities:

Dispatch Operations Management

  • Oversee all dispatch operations and coordinate logistics activities for timely and efficient deliveries across the South region
  • Develop and implement dispatch procedures and best practices to optimize efficiency and service quality
  • Monitor real-time delivery status and adjust schedules as needed to meet customer commitments and operational demands
  • Collaborate with planning, warehouse, transportation, and customer service teams to ensure seamless coordination
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and company safety policies
  • Optimize route planning and driver assignments to maximize asset utilization and minimize empty miles
  • Manage dispatch workflow and priorities to balance service levels with operational efficiency

Asset & Driver Utilization

  • Manage asset and driver utilization to maximize productivity and minimize costs
  • Monitor driver hours of service (HOS) to ensure compliance with DOT regulations while optimizing driver availability
  • Track vehicle utilization, idle time, and operational metrics to identify improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule preventive maintenance and minimize vehicle downtime
  • Analyze utilization data and implement strategies to improve fleet efficiency

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and mentor Driver Managers and support staff to build organizational capability
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and development opportunities
  • Manage staffing levels and create work schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all operational periods
  • Foster a collaborative, positive team environment focused on safety, service, and continuous improvement
  • Make employment decisions and recommendations on hiring, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations
  • Lead team meetings to communicate goals, performance updates, and operational priorities
  • Build strong relationships with Driver Managers and drivers based on trust and accountability

Performance Management

  • Monitor individual and team performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) including on-time delivery, utilization rates, safety metrics, and customer satisfaction
  • Provide coaching and corrective action to address performance deficiencies
  • Recognize and reward high performers to drive engagement and retention
  • Implement performance improvement plans when necessary
  • Track driver performance metrics including service quality, productivity, and compliance

Customer Service & Communication

  • Serve as escalation point for dispatch-related customer issues and drive timely resolution
  • Maintain proactive communication with customers, drivers, and internal stakeholders about delivery status and service issues
  • Provide regular updates to management on operational performance, challenges, and improvement initiatives
  • Ensure drivers deliver exceptional customer service and represent the Ashley brand professionally
  • Resolve service failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Technology & Reporting

  • Utilize dispatch software, transportation management systems (TMS), and tracking systems effectively to manage operations
  • Generate reports on key performance metrics including on-time delivery, utilization rates, safety compliance, and cost per delivery
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency
  • Analyze data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for compliance and reporting purposes

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and hours of service (HOS) rules
  • Monitor driver qualification files, medical certifications, and licensing to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Conduct safety audits and reinforce safe driving practices and company policies
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, document findings, and implement preventive measures
  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the fleet organization

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive operational excellence through process improvement, data analysis, and best practice implementation
  • Benchmark performance against industry standards and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs, improve service, and enhance efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives and operational improvements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in dispatch, logistics, or transportation management
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with proven ability to manage teams and operations
  • Solid understanding of DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and hours of service (HOS) compliance
  • Experience with dispatch software, transportation management systems (TMS), and GPS tracking platforms
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to lead teams and manage customer relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with data-driven decision-making approach
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on-call availability

Additional Qualifications, Preferred:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 5+ years of transportation or fleet management experience in delivery operations
  • CDL (Commercial Driver's License) or previous experience as a professional driver
  • Experience managing Driver Managers or supervisory teams in a multi-location environment
  • Knowledge of furniture delivery, white-glove service, or last-mile logistics operations
  • Familiarity with route optimization software and load planning tools
  • Background in performance management and coaching
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification with process improvement experience
  • Experience with telematics systems and fleet performance monitoring
  • Understanding of P&L management and cost control in transportation operations

Work Environment:

This position operates in a climate-controlled office environment with standard lighting and moderate noise levels typical of professional workspace settings. The role primarily involves sitting at a desk for extended periods while working with computers, phones, and other office equipment. The collaborative environment includes interaction with team members and may require attendance at meetings, conference calls, and cross-departmental communications during regular business hours. The position may require occasional field visits to driver terminals, customer locations, or operational facilities.

Pay:

$80,000- $100,000 annually

Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.

Profit Sharing: Profit sharing is available to eligible employees; this discretionary program is dependent on the profitability of the company.
