  • 2 x Manager First Nations Project Engagement temporary fulltime roles with Hunter Transmission Project and New England REZ.
  • Exciting opportunities up to late 2029/early 2030!
  • 35 hours per week plus FlexTime plus Hybrid working from home and office supported
  • Based in Sydney, Newcastle, Hunter or New England region with regular travel required.
  • Salary range from $154,231 to $178,369 plus super and leave loading

The Manager, First Nations Project Engagement leads Aboriginal engagement and participation activities across their respective major renewable energy and infrastructure projects at EnergyCo. In this role, you will focus on building strong relationships on the ground with Aboriginal communities, ensuring their perspectives are meaningfully included in project planning and delivery. You will also support project partners to meet their commitments relating to Aboriginal engagement, participation and cultural heritage.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).

About the Projects

Hunter Transmission Project (HTP)

The Hunter Transmission Project is a new 110 km 500 kV transmission line between Muswellbrook and Olney that will strengthen the NSW electricity network and improve energy reliability across the State.

New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ)

The New England REZ Project is a critical project that will connect renewable energy projects across the New England region to the NSW electricity network. The project includes new dual 500kV transmission lines extending from North of Armidale to the existing Bayswater Power Station near Muswellbrook.

About the roles

You will work closely with Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), Aboriginal organisations, local communities, EnergyCo delivery partners, the Network Operator and Design and Construct (D&C) contractors to build strong relationships, support cultural heritage outcomes and ensure Aboriginal perspectives are meaningfully incorporated into project planning and delivery.

You will lead initiatives to maximise Aboriginal employment, training, procurement and business participation opportunities, helping project partners meet and exceed their Aboriginal commitments and participation targets. This includes identifying opportunities for Aboriginal businesses, supporting Aboriginal workforce development, facilitating community partnerships and helping deliver lasting social, cultural and economic benefits for Aboriginal communities.

As the projects move into delivery and construction, you will work directly with contractors and delivery partners to embed Aboriginal participation requirements into project delivery, monitor performance against commitments, and drive outcomes that maximise Aboriginal employment and procurement opportunities throughout the life of the projects.

Regular travel across project areas will be required to support face-to-face engagement with Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), Aboriginal communities, stakeholders and project partners. Travel to EnergyCo's Sydney head office is also required to support project delivery, collaboration and team activities.

About You

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with lived experience, a strong knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and histories. You understand the historical and contemporary factors shaping outcomes for Aboriginal peoples and communities. You have a proven ability to build trusted relationships with Aboriginal communities, Respected community members, Elders and representative organisations, and excel at facilitating respectful consultation, co-design and partnership approaches that are grounded in self-determination, mutual respect and shared outcomes.

You are a confident communicator and strategic thinker who can navigate complex stakeholder environments, balance competing priorities and provide expert advice to senior leaders. You will bring experience working in delivery focussed environments, such as regional development, infrastructure and energy, along with strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policy frameworks and Aboriginal participation requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Capacity and willingness to travel to regional locations and to work outside standard business hours as required.
  • This is an identified role under section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Who we are?

The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy. EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

EnergyCo plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state’s electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020, EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State’s first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority transmission infrastructure projects (PTIPs), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions. We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.
