This role connects financial planning with NJR's corporate strategy by translating financial and operational data into actionable insights for senior management and business leaders.

The Manager will not only report results but also tell the story behind the numbers, explaining the drivers of performance, identifying emerging trends, and clearly communicating risks and opportunities. As a trusted business partner, this individual will work closely with leaders across the organization to support informed decision-making, evaluate strategic initiatives, and improve financial performance.

Additional responsibilities include headcount and workforce planning, operations and maintenance (O&M) expense management, financial modeling, management reporting, and the continued modernization of FP&A processes and capabilities.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budget, periodic forecast, and long-range planning processes, coordinating assumptions, timelines, and inputs across the organization.
  • Own monthly performance reporting and management-review materials, using variance and trend analysis to explain results compared with budget, forecast, commitments, and prior periods.
  • Manage operations and maintenance (O&M) expense planning and monitoring, partnering with budget owners to understand spending drivers and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Manage headcount and workforce planning, including hiring assumptions, staffing trends, and labor-related expense forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain financial and economic models, including sensitivity analyses and scenarios that identify potential risks, opportunities, and business impacts.
  • Evaluate business performance, investments, transactions, and strategic initiatives through financial statement analysis, business-case development, profitability and cost analysis, and consideration of relevant market conditions.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to business leaders by challenging assumptions, evaluating alternatives, and delivering practical recommendations that support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Lead improvements to FP&A processes and capabilities, with an emphasis on efficiency, automation, data quality, and more effective planning and reporting.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, accounting, corporate finance, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate financial planning, management reporting, financial statements, and business and cost drivers.
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and draw sound conclusions.
  • Ability to explain financial results and recommendations clearly and concisely to senior leaders and non-finance audiences.
  • Strong business-partnering skills, including the ability to build productive relationships, constructively challenge assumptions, and influence decisions without direct authority.
  • Strategic mindset with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional processes or projects and drive accountability for deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, MBA, or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the regulated utility or energy industry.
  • Experience supporting finance transformation, automation, or process-improvement initiatives.
