We are hiring one person to run the institutional backbone of the organisation: board governance, statutory and financial compliance, grant management and day-to-day administration. Based in New Delhi, full-time, reporting to the Director.

Why this role matters. As we grow, our credibility depends as much on how well we are run as on the quality of our research. This role keeps the organisation compliant, well-governed and audit-ready, so the research team can focus on its work. You will be the go-to person for the board, auditors, funders and regulators, and will build systems that scale with us.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Regulatory and tax compliance

  • Manage CSR-1 registration and documentation for CSR-funded projects.
  • Handle income tax filings for the organisation (ITR-7, audit report in Form 10B/10BB), TDS deductions, returns and certificates, and GST where applicable.
  • If the organisation holds FCRA registration: maintain the designated FCRA account, utilisation records and quarterly and annual returns (FC-4), and track renewal timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with labour laws: PF, ESI, professional tax, gratuity, POSH committee and annual report.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar so no filing or renewal is missed.
  1. Finance and accounts
  • Oversee bookkeeping, monthly closes and bank reconciliations, working with an external accountant where needed.
  • Prepare the annual budget with the Executive Director and track spend against it monthly.
  • Run payroll, vendor payments and reimbursements, with clear approval workflows.
  • Manage cash flow and fund accounting across restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Coordinate statutory and internal audits, and any funder or due-diligence audits.
  • Prepare financial reports for management, the board and the annual report.
  1. Grant Management
  • Support proposal development with budgets, budget narratives and organisational documents.
  • Review grant agreements for financial, reporting and compliance terms, and flag risks before signing.
  • Track all grants: deliverables, reporting deadlines, spend against budget, and restrictions.
  • Prepare or coordinate financial and narrative reports to funders, working with programme leads.
  • Maintain funder due-diligence documentation and relationships on the operations side.
  1. Board governance and company secretarial
  • Plan and run board and general meetings: calendars, notices, agendas, board papers, minutes and resolutions under the Companies Act, 2013 and Secretarial Standards.
  • Maintain statutory registers, the minute book and the record of directors' disclosures and interests.
  • File annual and event-based returns with the Registrar of Companies (e.g. AOC-4, MGT-7/7A, DIR-3 KYC, changes in directors or registered office), working with the company secretary in practice.
  • Help the board review and update governance policies: conflict of interest, whistleblower, POSH, data protection, delegation of authority.
  • Keep board members briefed on compliance status and governance risks.
  1. Administration, and operations
  • Run office administration: lease, vendors, IT, insurance, assets and procurement.
  • Manage contracts with consultants, research partners and service providers.
  • Supervise any administrative or finance support staff or interns.

Who we are looking for:

Required

  • 5–7 years of experience across finance, compliance, governance and administration, with at least part of it in the non-profit sector.

  • Working knowledge of non-profit tax and regulatory requirements: 12A/80G, CSR-1, TDS, and FCRA.
  • Experience managing grants from institutional donors, foundations or CSR funders, including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Comfort with accounting software (e.g. Tally, Zoho Books) and strong spreadsheet skills.
  • A graduate or postgraduate degree in commerce, finance, business administration, law or a related field.
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English and Hindi, including with board members and funders
  • Able to explain compliance requirements simply to colleagues who are not specialists.
  • Comfortable working independently in a small team and doing hands-on work as well as oversight.

Preferred:
