The Manager is responsible for leading tax accounting methods engagements, focusing on identifying and evaluating opportunities related to the timing of income and deductions, including areas such as inventory, revenue recognition, and other accounting method positions.

This role involves managing engagements from initial analysis through implementation, coordinating with clients and internal stakeholders, and reviewing technical positions and related documentation, including method change filings where applicable.

The Manager will work closely with a small team, including junior staff, providing guidance and support while ensuring high-quality deliverables and a strong client experience. In addition, the Manager is responsible for managing multiple engagements, maintaining key client relationships, and contributing to the growth of the practice.

A successful Manager will be able to manage multiple projects, communicate complex technical concepts clearly, and drive value for clients through improved cash flow and well-supported tax positions.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results

  • Leads team in developing project workplans and scheduling associated project deliverables.
  • Acts as a mentor, guiding team members on their career paths.

Client:

  • Builds strong relationships with clients and with the firm’s leadership.
  • Travels to client locations to gather information.
  • Performs as the oversight to the quality of work performed by the team for clients.
  • Prepares and conducts client presentations.
  • Assists with client billing and financial forecasting.
  • Responds to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities.
  • When necessary, defends client tax positions in court.

  • Manages complex income tax projects, especially in the Tax Accounting Methods area as well as other federal tax planning opportunities

Education and Experience:

Four-year college degree from an accredited institution in practice-relevant area with 5+ years practice-relevant experience, including 1+ year of management experience (formal or informal). Must have excellent organization and time management skills, strong communication skills, and willingness to learn and be a team player.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner’s knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Requires limited supervisory responsibilities, including training peers and checking work for accuracy and completeness.

Work Environment:

  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Occasional long periods of standing while copying.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
  • Independent travel requirement: 30 to 40%.
