General Summary

Manages and directs the operations and functions of Engineering and Maintenance for the acute care locations, ambulatory locations and/or others as assigned. Assists the Director in planning and organizing the functions of Engineering and Maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the development, implementation, administration, and modification of programs to maintain the physical plant, grounds, and equipment of the assigned location(s) through effective use of personnel and resources.
  • Utilizing the principles of Reliability Centered Maintenance and industry best practices, directs and leads the plant engineering maintenance operations for all assigned location(s) through effective use of personnel and materials.
  • Manages and maintains the plant engineering capability of the assigned campuses and systems for control and efficient and effective use of all utilities.
  • Manages general maintenance activities, sets up annual objectives, and implements a preventive maintenance program for buildings and associated building infrastructure equipment. This will be supported with proper monitoring and application of the current CMMS system.
  • Participates with Facility Services to prepare for and plan short and long range facility needs.
  • Works in conjunction with the Compliance Program for Engineering Services to ensure program goals are met and compliance is maintained. Develop a program to ensure inspection of building and grounds to ensure conformance with established standards and regulations. Participate as a member of the EOC team if applicable for the assigned site(s).
  • Establishes preventive maintenance schedules and prioritizes repair and maintenance work to minimize disruption of hospital operations.
  • Serves as liaison between Engineering Maintenance and Engineering Services or Design and Construction for major repairs, renovation, and new construction to ensure proper work practices are followed.
  • Works under the direction of the Director-Engineering Maintenance Operations and in conjunction with fellow Engineering Managers to develop system wide goals, objectives and policies in order to support best practices.
  • Leads efforts to support employee engagement, patient satisfaction, personal and system performance standards.
  • Manage daily operations to support the assigned WIGs.
  • Manages, coordinates and maintains the operations of the power plant and utilities for all assigned locations.
  • Sets priorities, expedites repairs and makes emergency decisions with respect to failure of plant utilities and/or other related systems.
  • Develops and manages the on-call system for after-hours Plant Operations and Maintenance support.

  • Recommends staffing levels, selects and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies, provides orientation, training and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Develops the departmental budget(s) and works with leadership to assure that it meets the needs for the respective location(s).
  • Coordinates and integrates services within the department/service line/entity, with other departments/service lines/entities, and with the System's primary functions. Participates in the selection of outside services.
  • Continuously assesses and improves the department/service line/entity/System's performance. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Bachelors Degree Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 3 years Engineering experience. Required and
  • Supervisory experience. Required
