The European Business Development team grows eBay by bringing high‑potential sellers onto the platform in our priority categories across Europe. We focus on hunter motions: finding new sellers, building strong pipelines, and helping them launch quickly and successfully.
As Central Europe Pod Lead, you will lead a pod of 4–8 Business Development Managers (BDMs) dedicated to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain. You will combine hands‑on ownership of key pipelines with day‑to‑day leadership, coaching, and simple operating rhythms so your team stays focused on the right opportunities and delivers strong results.
This role is based in Ireland (hybrid), with regular travel across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain. You will partner with colleagues in Category, Marketing, GCX, Legal, Finance, and Product to bring new Central European sellers to life on eBay.
If you enjoy building teams and opening new markets, this role is for you!
Lead the full territory strategy for new enterprise, strategic, and upper-SMB sellers passionate about the mid-market segment in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain. This includes sourcing, qualification, contract, onboarding, and handoff to scaling teams with clear GMV and activation targets.
Build, mentor, and support a team focused on Central Europe, setting territory plans, coverage models, and goals that align to regional and category priorities.
Design and run repeatable hunting playbooks for NL/BE/ES (e.g. market‑specific outreach cadences, events/webinars, partner motions) that lift conversion and reduce time‑to‑go‑live.
Personally lead a subset of the most strategic or complex opportunities, modelling disciplined deal management and strong stakeholder engagement across all three markets.
Keep pipeline and forecast healthy, partnering with Analytics and Finance to ensure accurate attribution by market, pacing vs. target, and clear visibility for leadership.
Collaborate with divisions such as Product Categories, Marketing, Global Customer Experience, Operations, Trust, Legal, and Product/Tech to eliminate obstacles for new sellers (e.g. localisation, integrations, policy clarity, incentives), incorporating insights from hunter pipelines into program and roadmap decisions.
Use data and market insight to prioritise segments and plays across Central Europe, testing and refining how the pod spends its time.
Experience in business development, sales, or marketplace expansion, ideally within e‑commerce or technology platforms, with examples of winning, onboarding, and scaling enterprise and mid‑market sellers in European markets.
Experience leading small, high‑energy hunter or sales teams as a player‑coach (c. 4–8 people), including hiring, coaching, performance management, and building an inclusive team culture.
Strong commercial and analytical skills: confident with funnel metrics and dashboards, and able to turn data into clear “do next” actions for yourself and your pod.
Experience running complex, multi‑stakeholder deals (e.g. brands, large merchants, solution partners) across multiple countries, balancing speed with quality and risk.
Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to influence cross‑functional partners and senior stakeholders, and to represent eBay credibly to external sellers and partners.
High bias for action, experimentation, and continuous improvement, with resilience in a fast‑changing environment and comfort switching between planning and hands‑on execution.
Strong proficiency with CRM and sales tooling; experience using AI to support lead prioritisation, workflow automation, and reporting is a plus.
Language requirements: Proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in at least one relevant local language (e.g. Dutch, French, or Spanish) is strongly preferred.
Geographic scope: the regions of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain, with flexibility to support broader EU initiatives where needed.
Location: Ireland-based (hybrid), requiring consistent travel to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain, plus occasional journeys across broader EU regions.
Team structure: Direct line leadership of a group of BDMs/hunters committed to Central Europe; close partnership with adjacent teams (Category, Marketing, GCX, Operations, Trust, Enablement, Product/Tech) to ensure end‑to‑end seller success.
Key partners: Category and vertical leads, GCX, Marketing & Events, Legal, Finance (promo budgets and incentives), Product/Tech (integrations and seller tools), and external solution partners/3PPs where relevant.
Key metrics: include new active sellers and total sales value from NL, BE, and ES. They also include sales pipeline strength and conversion rate by market. Time to activation and growth, seller happiness and retention, and return on investment of programs across large and mid-sized business segments are also tracked.
