Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Manager, Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management administers and oversees the College's risk management programs, liability and property insurance, and environmental health & safety programs. Analyze risk exposure, and establish procedures for safety and emergencies, as well as financial, legal, contractual, and insurance needs. Develop, implement, and manage programs on safety, insurance, liability, workers' compensation, unemployment, contractual process, and all related policies and procedures for the College. Evaluate loss prevention programs based on their benefit to the College and the opportunity for human loss, financial loss or loss of reputation and make appropriate recommendations. Interaction with a wide variety of programs, property, personnel, legal counsel, advisors, and other departments within the College.
Develop, organize, implement, and evaluate the College’s risk management programs (e.g., workers’ compensation, general property and liability insurance) and the College’s environmental, occupational, and health/safety programs. Ensures compliance with OSHA, ADA, and other related federal, state, and local laws and regulations.Develop and maintain departmental budgets. Authorize expenditures and prepares budget projections. Work directly with Illinois Community College Risk Management Consortium to perform insurance needs assessments and coverage levels, and to review and support as appropriate terms of coverage and purchase of insurance plans.Coordinate the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive Risk Management Program for College of DuPage, including setting goals and objectives for the Risk Management Program, identifying and analyzing perils, risks and hazards to which the College, its employees, students, volunteers, general public, and/or property may be exposed.Determine the most effective methods of handling each risk exposure, and conduct an annual review (procedures to measure the effectiveness and performance) of the organization’s Risk Management Program. Evaluate major loss exposures in terms of past experience and potential frequency and severity to establish priorities and methods for treating discovered risk exposure.Assist in the planning and coordination of College-wide emergency response plans, natural disaster preparedness, and other risk-mitigation plans in collaboration with campus Police and other appropriate College departments,Responsible for interviewing, hiring preparing job descriptions, conducting performance evaluations, administering disciplinary action as necessary, and training all Risk Management and Environmental Health & Safety employees.Oversee proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and biological materials across all College facilities. Continuously monitor for safety code compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Respond to and resolve problems, issues, audit findings, and inquiries regarding hazardous materials management.Conduct safety inspections of College facilities and enforce adherence to regulations governing the health and safety of individuals and protection of the College environment. Identify all positions within the College that require safety training.Coordinate the creation of risk management and environmental safety policies, programs and procedures, which includes developing safety and loss control programs and procedures.Maintain safety, audit, accident, and other pertinent records and statistics on behalf of the College. Maintain and update college web site concerning safety information. Establish and manage relationships with various risk management and insurance consultants and vendors, including the College’s broker or agent. Coordinate the process of applying for and renewing insurance coverage consistent with the risk goaQualifications:
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management, or a related field required.
- Certified Safety Professional preferred.
- Experience
- Three (3) years experience in risk management, safety administration, industrial hygiene, workers compensation, or a related area, with responsibility for conducting safety investigations, creating and developing health and safety programs, and developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, including at least one (1) year direct supervisory experience required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
- Must have functional knowledge of safety requirements for various types of equipment required.
- More than three years experience in the areas stated above preferred.
Working Conditions:
Working knowledge of all Environmental Health and Safety monitoring equipment.On call for emergencies.This position requires a background check and drug screen. We do not offer visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Hiring Range:
13 Salary Starting salary beginning at $84,672, based on education and experience
