Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for defining and governing enterprise architecture strategy across core platforms, ensuring alignment with business goals, regulatory requirements, and technology standards. This role provides architectural leadership across system design, integration, cloud adoption, data frameworks, and emerging AI capabilities, while guiding delivery teams and vendors to implement scalable, secure, and future-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Architecture Strategy

  • Define and maintain enterprise architecture roadmap aligned with business and digital transformation objectives
  • Establish architecture principles, standards, and governance frameworks across applications, data, infrastructure, and AI adoption
  • Ensure alignment with Group architecture direction, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
  • Work closely with Group Enterprise Architecture (Group EA) to ensure local architecture strategies and solutions align with enterprise-wide direction, and contribute to Group EA initiatives

2. Solution Architecture & Design Authority

  • Provide design authority and approval for solution architectures across major programmes (e.g., PAS, digital platforms)
  • Review and validate architecture deliverables including system design, integration patterns, data models, NFRs, and AI-enabled components
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned with cloud-native and modern engineering principles

3. Technology Standardisation & Governance

  • Define and enforce standards across:
    • Application architecture (microservices, APIs)
    • Integration patterns and middleware
    • Cloud, infrastructure, and AI solution adoption
  • Govern architecture compliance across projects, vendors, and delivery teams
  • Lead architecture review boards (e.g., EARB) and decision forums

4. Cloud, Platform & AI Architecture

  • Drive adoption of cloud architecture (e.g., AWS) and modern platform engineering practices
  • Define reference architectures for containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD, DevSecOps, and AI-assisted development
  • Promote adoption of AI-enabled engineering tools and practices (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor.ai) to improve productivity and code quality
  • Ensure platform scalability, resilience, and disaster recovery readiness

5. Integration & Data Architecture

  • Define enterprise integration strategy using APIs, event-driven architecture, and messaging frameworks
  • Oversee data architecture including data models (ERD), governance, lineage, and migration frameworks
  • Ensure readiness for AI-driven use cases (e.g., data pipelines, model integration, analytics enablement)
  • Ensure data consistency, integrity, and regulatory compliance

6. Security & Compliance Architecture

  • Embed security-by-design principles across all solutions, including AI-enabled components
  • Define standards for identity and access management (e.g., Okta, OAuth2, SAML)
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, PCI DSS, and enterprise security policies

7. Stakeholder & Vendor Engagement

  • Collaborate with business, IT, and senior leadership to align architecture with business priorities and innovation initiatives
  • Provide architectural direction to system integrators and vendors, including AI solution providers
  • Act as trusted advisor on technology decisions, risks, and trade-offs

8. Project Management Oversight

  • Provide architectural oversight across project delivery lifecycle, ensuring alignment with approved designs and standards
  • Work closely with project managers to embed architecture governance into delivery plans
  • Monitor technical risks, dependencies, and architecture deviations, ensuring timely resolution
  • Ensure architecture checkpoints are integrated into project governance (design approval, go-live readiness)

Technical Expertise

  • Architecture & Design
    • Enterprise architecture governance with experience in microservices, API-first, and event-driven architectures
    • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements
  • Programming & Development Knowledge
    • Working knowledge of:

    • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevSecOps practices
  • Integration & Data
    • Experience with API gateways, Kafka, MuleSoft (or similar)
    • Strong data modelling, migration, and governance expertise
  • AI & Emerging Technology
    • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor.ai)
    • Understanding of AI solution integration, including use of APIs, automation, and data pipelines
    • Experience in implementing or supporting AI-enabled solutions (e.g., automation, analytics, intelligent workflows) is a strong advantage
  • Security
