Lead a software engineering team responsible for building and supporting scalable healthcare technology solutions. In this role, you will combine people management, technical leadership, and delivery execution to help the team deliver reliable software and improve operational outcomes. You will partner with product, architecture, operations, and other stakeholders to define priorities, remove blockers, and support successful delivery. This position is based in Chennai, India and follows a hybrid work model. This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager.

About the Team:


Collector R&D builds enterprise services and tools that support athenahealth’s revenue cycle workflows. The team develops software that helps manage large volumes of claim resolution work and improves operational productivity through scalable design and targeted automation. The work spans customers, internal technology-enabled services teams, and BPO partners. The team focuses on reliability, security, maintainability, and healthcare compliance while solving complex business problems.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support a team of engineers in delivering high-quality software.
  • Manage team planning, execution, delivery risks, and priorities.
  • Guide technical decisions across Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, JavaScript/jQuery, and TypeScript.
  • Partner with product, architecture, operations, and other stakeholders to define and deliver solutions.
  • Review design and code quality to support scalability, maintainability, and security.
  • Coach engineers through feedback, growth planning, and performance discussions.
  • Support production readiness, issue resolution, and root cause analysis.
  • Use AI-enabled tools in engineering and management workflows to improve planning, analysis, documentation, and problem solving, and help the team apply them in practical and responsible ways.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and team development activities.
  • Participate in roadmap and release planning discussions.
  • Collaborate on process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Support cross-functional coordination and communication.
  • Assist with incident response and post-incident follow-up as needed.

Expected Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10 to 15 years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience in engineering management or technical leadership.
  • Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, JavaScript/jQuery, and TypeScript.
  • Experience building scalable web applications and services.
  • Experience managing people, including coaching and performance management.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a hybrid environment.
  • Experience in healthcare technology or regulated environments is preferred.
